but how can they, when most of the illegal immigrants are poor and never had an opportunity for an education

to get a visa they either have to be rich or educated, but the illegals can bareley feed themseves back in Mexico.

They come to the US for work and a better life, they don't expect Americans to hand them anything, they come to earn money by doing some of the most rigorous, back breaking work.

Just to have Americans complain about immigrants taking their jobs, Would you really carry wood boxes full of vegetables in triple digit heat? or clean toilets for minimum wage? Even if you were willing to do it,soon you would demand higher wages and i'm not willing to pay $25 for a box of strawberries., that's what most Americans don't understand; higher wages = higher prices

and coming here is no picnic neither, they risk their lifes by cramming themselves in the back of a trailer or by crossing the desert, many have died already.

They do this because they have to.

Falling into the exact hole politicians want you to fall in, does not make you correct! If you are indeed a legal Mexican, I would say you need to speak and mingle with a different class. The people you communicate with now are giving you some lame information. Also, praise from a staffer is simply not note worthy. While you may think your stance is honorable and justified you fail to understand one basic fact that is crucial with respect to illegal immigrants from Mexico. The fence will not work! The only evidence we have about the fence is: It's a good place to cut a hole! The immigration problem is not due to Mexican nationals wanting to shop at Wal-Mart in down town Phoenix, it's the border and customs agents not being able to do their job. Sure the border is important, that goes without saying. But, employers who hire illegal citizens ought to be investigated and arrested or, at the very least, fined until their socks fall off. People with accusations such as yours think all illegals work in the fields picking lettuce or make up the majority of criminals running the streets of the US. Here's the truth and you can bank on it: Many illegals work in the trades (blue collar), they take away tax paying jobs from legal citizens. How can they do this? People who insist that a billion dollar fence is a better way to spend, rather than put Border or Customs agencies at the level they need to be. We already have fences and they don't work! Although I would hope a person such as yourself would be more tolorant I think you give Mexicans a bad name. Thank you for reading my opinion. A Really White Guy!

I'll carry boxes of wood for a normal wage. The reason that there is no normal wage is that the illegal mexican's are willing to do it. If we had an American union in charge of picking friut, this would not be happening, what the price of fruit going to go up to ? 10 cents more ? Big deal ! all the mexican is doing is re-enforcing the cheap labor rate. I have nothing against LEGAL mexican's, I do however have something against 1 million of them strolling across the border, and IT IS NOT as hard as you say, America is NOT responsible for the 3 rd world, I'm sorry that you are poor but, don't destroy my world because, your's sucks ! We owe you NOTHING, we are not your meal ticket. You are "CRIMINALS" no matter how much you protest, or deny it, we all came here legally, YOU CAN TOO, NO EXCUSES !

After reading your mis-informed tirade on illegal immigrants and having a good belly laugh (I especially like the part about "they don't expect Americans to hand them anything. Tell that to the Texas, Arizona & California Public Assistance and Public Health systems). I went back and read your question.

No, I don't want the illegal immigrants coming here legally. I want the illegal immigrants leaving here permenately.

It is a shame that some countries are poor disease ridden pig sties. But that is not my fault. It is also not my fault that children are born into these dumps.

These kids need to slap their parents around and then take control of their country and make it livable.

These illegals consume far more of American resources from health, housing, monetary support, crime and other tax payer supported programs than they contribute.

What you would save in taxes would out weigh the raise in food or manufacturing costs. Plus, with the loss of this employment pool, America would import more food and goods thus creating more jobs in these poor countries.

Then these uneducated, disease carrying future gang members could stay home and their poor countries would have to shoulder the burden for health care, cops & prisons, housing projects and morgues.

We would just pay a small cost of transportation fee for your strawberries.

Look, some Americans DO have to carry wood boxes full of vegetables and clean toilets. That's because they are poor too.

I grew up an African American in a lower middle class, city environment. Everyone there is either Black or Puerto Rican, all Americans. I lived a few blocks from a really poor urban slum. What work do you think people from that area do? Do you think they work as executives in high rise office complexes, or do they sweep the floors and clean up the trash in those buildings? Do you think they have guys come cut their non-existent lawns, or do they cut lawns for people in upper class neighborhoods (if an illegal's not already doing it)? Who picks up the garbage in those ritzy areas. Where I'm from, it's not illegals...not yet.

You see, poor Americans don't seem to matter. They are invisible. We need to be more concerned about our own poor people. If you want to keep wages low, remember what you're doing to poor American and legal immigrant workers just so you can pay a little less for your products. You can afford that extra buck, they can't and the fact that you want to keep their wages low really doesn't help. You want to cry about the cost of gas and they don't even have a car. $25 for a box of strawberries? Come on now. More like an extra 10 cents.

Illegal immigrants aren't just Mexicans working in the fields. They can come from any country and do any job a poor or lower middle class American does. They're construction workers, hotel workers, airport support service workers, fast food workers, cleaning staff, secretaries, truck drivers, warehouse workers, supermarket workers, cashiers, Wal-mart floor managers (inside story), day shift managers at Burger King (inside story), receptionists, healthcare workers, etc ... and that's just the low end of it. Some DO have an education and work in a job even you would do. There are tons of people who come on a student visa then just stay and get a good paying job without legal permission. They are also illegal aliens. They don't all cross a border in the desert heat or in the back of a tractor trailer. And that includes many Mexicans, who also come on visas and just stay. They do it because our country pays better, that's it and there's not always a sob story about putting food on a table for a family of five.

All of Mexico (since that's your country of topic) is not poor and uneducated. There ARE jobs in Mexico. If our country wants to help poor Mexicans, perhaps we should help do something about their corrupt systems instead of listening to their president beg us to let his people stay to earn money that will be sent back to help their economy. But then, we need low wages and more unskilled workers will help keep them low. What better way to achieve that goal then allow them to stay and at the same time get Mexico's president to help us push his people our way.

No, I don't want illegals from anywhere to come in any manner. If you violated our laws by coming here illegally, you blew it. You should never be able to become legal. I'd rather have people who respect laws come when there are higher level jobs available that require skills most Americans don't have. Leave the unskilled work for our poor who are legally here and don't make them your servants. Pay legal American workers what they deserve and stop trying to turn immigration policy into an emotional issue with arguements relating to "family unity" and racism. Let it focus on assisting efforts to maintain economic stabiliy for ALL Americans and legal immigrants (not just those above a certain income level) and national security as those issues relate to the movement of people from one country to another.

I hear an alarm clock. Time to wake up.

There are tons of ways for people to come legally,we have the most lenient immigration laws anywhere and several different options.
Many of these illegals pay thousands of dollars to coyotes so if they can afford that, they can afford to feed their families where they are as well as the fees to come legally.

Dusty 45, you said "answer this question.if a person is not a citizen of this country are they able to join the military?i don't think so.you seem to forget that we fight for our way of life." Why don't you inform yourself a little better about your own country? You don't have to be an American citizen to be in the military. That's what I call ignorance. You start talking trying to defend your point, yet what your saying is completely false.

I'm Mexican, and I hate to say this, but I agree with some of the people. I live in a mostly white neighborhood, and there is only about 30 mexicans kids in my school, and basically they all isolate themselves from the "white kids".

All I here from them is, how much America sucks and how beautiful their country is. My question is, if your country is so beautiful why dont you just go back there and quit talking **** with the country that is supporting your ***.

AND, OMG. In chicago there are dozens of people sellings "real" Social Security cars and birth certificates to Illegal aliens.

Well thats just messed up, but I do respect the people who come here "legal".

all I have to say is, there are alot of Poor America people here in America, they dont run from their country they try and figure out a solution.

If they can pay $1000's to a "coyote" to sneak them into the border in pick up trucks, surely they can afford the legal process to enter.

I'm sorry, but our national security takes precedence, and while their motives are understandable, you are in denial of the dangers illegal "immigration" (which isn't really immigration at all) represents.

The people on welfare would do those jobs, and should do them. You're presenting excuses, not logic.
