If you are a Christian I wouldn't suggest that you participate in such things. There are MANY scriptures in the bible that warn against lewd thoughts that produce lewd acts. In fact, satan has the ability to put a sinfully suggestive thought in your mind but if you don't know the Word of God you'll have nothing to fight against it with. And there in lies the question, if you are Christian do you love, read, study, and meditate on God's Word? If not then I can see why you have no problem reading and writing trashy romance novels and participating in pornographic films etc. You simply don't know any better and have not consulted God through prayer and His Word in order to see things as He sees it; not from your own limited understanding. I, however, will not judge by telling you what I think of people who do as you've posted. The fact is, all have sinned and come short of the glory (perfect actions and ability) of God, which is what is required in order to get into heaven. But because non of us have ever achieved it, God has given the whole world his Son Jesus Christ to pay the ultimate and only price accepted by Him for every sin committed past present and future. Moreover, God offers Jesus as a gift to all of those who would receive Him and follow Him. You can't work for it and no one deserves it! You must simply receive Christ and follow Him through prayer and the Word of God. That said, I can only tell you personally I don't read trashy novels and I try to steer clear of anything that would allow satan to place a lewd thought in my mind. All of our actions are a result of the thoughts we think continually and that is why God's word say's that we are to be renewed by the changing of our minds. In other words, pray, read, study, and meditate on the bible so that our hearts and minds can be changed to match that of God's. I can grantee that if you do all of that you’ll be less likely to participate or even like trashy novels and such.

If you are looking at what the Bible says, it is just as bad. God doesn't "grade" sin, sin is sin and it's what He made the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ for.
The Bible says that if you follow the whole law and just miss one little thing you are guilty of breaking all of it.
It's getting onto another subject but God's grace and the blood of Jesus will cover our sins if we ask for that, we are free, but there are consequences to our actions; the Bible also says that if we keep on knowingly sinning then it's like crucifying Jesus all over again.
If you are a Christian and you care about what God thinks, not people, I would search your own heart, bring your request before God and wait on Him for peace on the matter.

I think it depends on what your novel is about.
if your novel features cheating spouses then, yes its just as bad as pornography because it will make the reader fantasize about those sinful things.
same thing if your novel has premarital sex involved, its just as bad as pornography.
