Can't beat the Mr. Expert above but my frank opinion is that food items in market have just best before dates. They are not 100% chemicals which start to become poison after that date because if they did, it would not be allowed to launched in market. You are fine, don't worry.

Soda Expiration Dates

No you can't. That is just a freshness date. It's freshest if used by that date. You can seriously drink/eat products many months after the expiration date as long as they have been sealed properly.

Of course if they smell or taste funny I wouldn't consume them. Common sense goes without saying.

With medications you just don't get the potency of the product when it was first packaged. Hence it is less effective.

But as for getting sick on anything expired...you won't.

It can because Aspartame can break down into methane gas. This is infused into the soda and can cause blindness if you drink enough of it. There have been cases of this happening documented and also reported in the media.

This is why diet sodas have expiration dates. It's not about "freshness" but rather for law suit protection.

For more information, read "Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills" by Russell Blaylock. It lists the studies and biochemical proof of the toxicity and the long term effects of Aspartame.

Aspartame isn't good for you BEFORE the expiration date either.

You will be okay. I would check the date before buying in the future though. Pop is still good for a month or so after the expiration date, though diet pop goes bad faster. I know you will be okay though because I bought a pop once and took a large gulp. It tasted funny and I checked the date it was three months past expiration. It was also diet. i survived, but I learned to always check the date.

No, it will not make you sick. It is fine several months after the "born on" date. The date, which was started by beer companies, just tells consumers that it tastes better before a certain date. Now, if it were several years past due I wouldn't drink it, not because it would make you sick, which I doubt, but it would taste like crap! My hubby works for 7Up, so they have to rotate their products and such, becuase they want the consumers to get the best tasting item.

Unless the soda had a little tiny calendar in there, it has no clue what day it is. And one little sip of a legitimate drink isn't going to hurt anyone. I think you'll be fine because the soda isn't that much out of date.

Will expired soda make you sick? Well I've got a little info here about soda, that might make you sick just reading it!

I hate to chime in on a negative note, but when ever I see someone talking about any of these products I just feel obligated to say a few things about them that the general public may not be aware of.

The first and probably most significant piece of information is, carbonated beverages with caramel color have extremely high acidity levels. As most of you know in order to keep the body healthy you have to maintain an APPROXIMATE alkaline to acid ratio of 70/30 %. Drinking either Coke or Pepsi contributes to the imbalance. The carbonation in these drinks also fights with the natural stomach acids in the digestive system and results in ineffective digestion.

Scientific studies have also shown how as few as one or two soft drinks a day can increase one’s risk for numerous health problems. Some of these health problems include obesity, diabetes, tooth decay, osteoporosis, nutritional deficiencies, heart disease, and many neurological disorders

Dr. Charles Best, the discoverer of insulin, claims that teenagers who consume too many soft drinks have cirrhosis of the liver similar to what chronic alcoholics have.1 There is no cure for cirrhosis of the liver except to receive a new liver through a transplant.

If your still not convinced try a couple of "do it yourself tests"next time you have the opportunity;

Need to remove paint from your car?
Don't sand it off,
just use a can of Pepsi or Coke

Clogged drain that can't even be fixed with Draino?
Use a Coke or Pepsi

How about a toilet
so grimy and disgusting
even sandpaper wouldn't clean it?
Try Pepsi or Coke

Want to clean the corrosion off your car battery?
Coke or Pepsi?

Does it ever really quench your thirst?
Nope.
Drink a Coke or Pepsi after getting close to dehydrated state and chances are YOU WILL DIE.

So as we can see
there are a lot of great uses for both Coke and Pepsi,
but none of them include human consumption.

I've included a few other sites below for those of you that might be a little more than curious about your favorite soft drinks.

Remember, Coke DOES NOT add life.
