Not anymore, but when I was growing up, Mama often cooked roast beef or pork roast on Sunday. She'd ALWAYS have potatoes and carrots along with the roast, rice, gravy, rolls, etc.

Thanks for bringing back those memories for me. Mama will have been dead 10 years this July 7.
This made me think of happy times.
Have a good day!

I really like the idea of Sunday dinners and having a group of family and friends over to share a meal before each of us starts our respective weeks. Since the weather is warm and we'll be dining outside, I've opted for a barbecue this evening. The menu consists of:

1. BBQ'd chicken breasts, london broil, bratwurst
2. Baked beans with bacon
3. Potato Salad
4. Cucumber salad with a rice vinegar dressing
5. Asparagas spears wrapped with prosciutto and fresh roasted beets with goat cheese.
6. Fresh Potato Rosemary bread with sweet butter
7. Ice cream pie (sugar cookie crust, chocolate fudge layer, orange sherbert and vanilla ice cream layers)
8. Fruit Salad
9. Wine, soft drinks, water

Since the summer's bounty is rich, I like to incorporate the fresh fruits and veges of the season.

yes we do! we do a stove top beef pot roast. My MOM taught me this to keep the house from getting too hot from the oven. The best pot, of course, is a cast iron dutch oven. You start by seasoning and browning your roast an alll sides in a hot, non stick cooking spray or light olive oil. add small amount of broth(I ike to use a can of chicken broth with a cap of Kitchen Boquet browning sauce) go ahead and add an onion and some garlic. Cover and simmer until starts to get tender(if in a hurry,or you get hungry like I do) you can go ahead and slice it as that will help it cook faster. When it gets close to desired doneness, add your potatoes, carrots, bell peppers and some more onion ab dother veges of your choice. Contine to add a little more broth if it gets too low on "au jus" if you like your roast in a gravey all you need to need to do is put a little corn starch in a cup and mix with cold water, gently add a bit of hot liquid to that then slowly add to pot stirring until well mixed and to desired thickness. Continue to simmer in covered dutch oven. yummy

yeah i have a roast on a sunday, i tend to have it with different kinds of meat each week, it tends to get pretty boring eating the same thing every week, however i always have the same vegtables on my plate.
