My bf and I are about to head out on a bike ride, and he insists we eat first (he's "starving" and can't wait til later). Is this a really bad idea, or doesn't it matter much?

Thanks!

well it all depends on what your going to eat, eating heavy meals before any exercise is bad, like meat or other heavy things, the best thing is eating fruit, rise , or pasta things that will remove the hungry but will digest fast, then after the ride you can then eat a heavy meal like red meat, so your muscles can regenerate and build muscle body

As a general rule, eating something (specifically something heavy or large quantities) is not good for you just before a bike ride, especially if the bike ride is long. You should have snack foods such as bananas (for potassium), granola bars or trail mix, and maybe some energy "gels" that come in single-serving containers. The BEST time to eat a good meal is the night before a bike ride, and it should involve a meal with complex carbohydrates (such as pasta). This boosts your metabolism and will set you up for a decent ride.

It depends on what you eat. I wouldn't have Thanksgiving dinner, but some power bars or granola bars would be fine. If it's a long ride, bring a couple extra with you or stop and buy some part way through the ride. Also make sure you stay hydrated-- drink before you're thirsty.

Depends on what you eat. Actually, it's a bad idea to do something if you're starving. But don't overeat.

I don't think so...on the Tour de France , they eat and drink as they ride....and also do their toilet business , while still riding their bikes.......they just pull their Lycra shorts down....do their number one's or two's......while still carrying on riding !
