Is mental retardation present in all cases of Down Syndrome, or are there any person's with this disorder who have an average or above average IQ?

Down Syndrome is a Developmental Disability--- Which means the subject's IQ is under 60... However, there are so many types of DD that it is possible for someone with Down Syndrome to lead a relatively normal/happy life.. Within there disabilty.

Down syndrome is NOT defined by IQ. It is the presence of an extra chromosome. Most people with Down syndrome have mild to medium mental retardation, and yes, a few do test above an IQ of 70, which officially makes them not mentally retarded. I doubt you would find anyone with Down syndrome who has an IQ that's above average though.
