I dont think you should be scared. The world will not end in our lifetimes. I intend on living to a ripe old age.

The Mayan's were a very advanced civilisation but their record of predictions is not a good one. The year 2012 is only the year in which the Mayan calander ends, there are no predictions for the end of the world, this is something that people like to take out of context because it makes for interesting reading.

According to the Mayans the world is only 6,000 years old. Advanced though they were their knowledge of time wasn't all that good.

And don't forget, all those predictions that the world would end on 06-06-06 and 01-01-01, we're still here.

The Mayan calander does not say the world is gonna end in 2012.

here is a website explaining it better. Don't freak out it's just a change, not the end.

No, the world is not going to end in 2012 just because someone "thinks" they have properly interpreted a calendar that is 1,000's of years old. The Mayans were exceptional star trackers and keepers the passing of the seasons with their calendars, but they did not have special prognostic skills that would enable them, with any degree of certainty, to predict the end of the world.
If I was going to stake my reputation on one source in this area, it would be the Bible. And it does not say anything to lead me to believe the world will end in 2012.
I truly believe you are worrying needlessly.
Live your life and enjoy it without this particular concern.

Nope. That was a Mayan joke. A big party was planned by the Mayans for New Years day, 2013.

well considering how many people have said that the world will end, i doubt it, plus its a religious thing, and religion does not provide facts, religions are just simply fairy tales widespread as facts, so no, it will not end, i mean think about it, the world was supposed to end in 2000, 2003, 2004, and on 6/6/06, its complete BS

Yahoo Answers is slowly turning into everything i hoped that it wouldnt. i do like that anyone can ask a question but this is the most ridiculous statement i have heard. i cant believe how many people are skeptical about global warming when the changes in extreme weather and temperatures are so catastrophically clear. i wont even go through all of the natural disasters that occured this year. in new york last nite it is the end of june and it was nearly 49 degrees last night. and all week it has been extremely cold at nights. i can tell anyone who has lived in new york longer than ten years will let you know we have never seen weather like we have seen this year. the mildest winter i ever remember along with the coolest summer with the exception of a few days of extreme heat in upper 99-101 degrees. change is happening and inevitable u can only destroy and environment with development and pollution for so long before things start to happen for the worse. i am not saying everyone will die in 2012 but life on earth will progressively start getting worse in future years do to the massive shifts in climate, temperature, and increasing threat of natural disasters.

I think the world will go on. Think of it this way, every few years someone says the world will and it doesn't. The odds are really good that it will continue this time as well.
