What i'm wondering is when I stand before the judge, is it appropriate to have my purse hanging on my shoulder? If not, what am I supposed to do?

The court hearing is for my minor son's name change, so maybe I won't even need my purse or ID with me??? Anyone know?

The purse is OK because obviously both male and female judges know that women carry purses. You'll also be carrying an ID and probably checkbook with you. But not standing before the judge with it over your shoulder. If you can't leave it in the chair or with a friend, hold the strap with two hands in front of you for respect for the hearing. And stand up tall and don't sass. They don't like that. (I haven't been in trouble, but a lot of friends have!)

stick it under your chair when you sit down or keep it in your lap and put it in your chair when you stand up. If you're goin up to the witness stand and you don't want to leave your purse unattended just bring it with you and put it under your chair or in your lap. Bring a smaller purse that day so isn't so noticeable. I would say though bring a friend with you and just leave your purse with them when you go up.
Anytime you go into a court house these days you have to go through security.. and most of the time you need ID to get through security... Just bring a small purse with your keys your phone (don't forget to turn it off!) and your ID and wallet maybe some tissue. You won't need anything else.

Honey, it looks like no one is going to agree with me, but I think a small clutch would be appropriate and tasteful. Just large enough for car keys, license, lipstick, and tissue. Most male judges are married and I honestly can't see one being offended because you have a purse! If it's a female judge--I'll guarantee you that she carries a purse along with her briefcase! Good luck!!

To court, yes... directly before the judge, not unless it is or contains evidence which you are presenting TO the judge. Normally, your purse is "secure" in the courtroom setting, including hearing rooms. If you are not sure of the security, then leave it locked in the trunk of your vehicle. If you bring it into the courtroom, leave it at (under) the "desk"/podium/table where you are at if you need to step before the judge.

Take your purse but sit in on the floor. In that manner you have it if you need it but it is not disrupting the hearing.

if you are trying to piss the judge off then take the purse.the purse hanging on your shoulder might look cocky to him/her and depending on how much the purse is worth then he/she might actually impose tougher fines on you if she/he thinks you have money to burn.Leave the purse in the car.
