The polar shift was supposed to occur in 1999, 2003, March '05, and again in '06; now they've rescheduled it to coincide with the Mayan prophecies about 2012.
I just don't believe anyone who has jumped on this bandwagon has provided enough sound supportive evidence to make me worry about it.
If it happens there is nothing to be done anyway, so why worry?

It is misunderstood information mainly. The Mayan calendar does indeed end- this cycle. And back when the calendar was made, the Mayans predicted that at the end of the cycle they would see some marevous and fearsome changes in the world.
Now here is where brain power has to kick in, and you have to take it into context. Look at our world in the 21st century. Now look at the Mayan world- let's go to when Spanish came over and found the Mayans- 13th century. Are there nbot some marevelous and fearsome changes in the world between then and now? Electricity, TV, guns, etc - all marevelous - all equally fearsome.
All that will happen on that date - and here is likely a very accurate prediction - people will be rushing around last minute Giftmas shopping, and the next cycle of the Mayan calendar would begin - or will, if there are still adherents to that calendar.
That's it!

So the Mayan calendar is the same as our calendar? We have changed our calendar a few times, so do we know when the Mayan December 21, 2012 is to occur?
If the world is to end then, it has to end sometime. But if it is the case, why did Jesus not appear in Latin America instead of Palestine, and why were the end days spoken of so much then, yet it didn't happen.
I shall remain skeptical about predictions, especially those based on numbers, and leave the end of the world up to God.

Well, at least we'll see the London Olympics, then.
No, I don't believe we're doomed then - I think the Earth has about 5 billion more years in it before the expanding Sun decimates it. Humanity, however, will not be able to live here past 2 or 3 billion years away.

Well if the earth is going to "take a flip," don't you think we should start seeing some signs of it doing so about now. After all, I doubt the earth would just randomly decide one day to "take a flip" for no good reason.

I find that to be crap. Based on the bible, before the world seriously ends, there's a 7-year tribulation period and then the world ends. There's only 5 years until December 21, 2012 so I don't believe it.
And just because the mayan calendar ends is a stupid answer because we're not mayans! :D

Of course not. The Mayan calendar had to end somewhere, and according to Mayan mysticism, it was only the end of a cycle, not the end of the world.
Somebody needs to dose these end-of-worlders with anti-psychotocs.

People have been predicting the end of the world for centuries. No one knows except God. Jesus said (it's recorded in Matthew 24:35-36) "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only."
