People like to split each other into groups based on how everyone responds to the question "Is there a God?" Here is how the different groups respond:

Polytheists: Yes, there are many gods.
Monotheists: Yes, there is one God.
Atheists: No, there is no God.
Agnostics: I'm not sure if there is a God.
Nontheists: It doesn't matter if there is a God.
Ignostics: What is a God?

Atheism is generally defined in two ways: either the lack of a belief in god (known as Negative or Weak Atheism), or the positive assertion that god does not exist (known as Positive or Strong Atheism). It is not one "religion", nor are atheists unified by one set of beliefs. Some religions - Buddhism being a notable example - are atheistic in nature as they have no god to speak of. Most atheists in the Western World, though, subscribe to no religion at all or to personalized expressions of their spirituality. Atheists hold a wide variety of beliefs, from liberal Secular Humanism to conservative Objectivism, from militant anti-religion to libertarian religious freedom ideals.

No, we atheists do not run to "god" when our lives hit turmoil. We don't kill babies. We don't worship "Satan" or other demons. A large portion of us have no interest in harming the religious, and simply desire the right to the same life that everybody else has without having religion - weather it be Christianity, Islam, Judaism or anything else - down our throats or having religious laws imposed upon us.

Athiest: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/atheist

basically, an Athiest believes there is no god(s). I can't side with that because it's not verifiable, it's blind belief in the non-existance of god(s).

So I hedge my bets by being agnostic

Atheism is not a religion just like bald is not a hair color. No belief in any gods. That's it.

There is no Atheist religion. An Atheist simply does not believe that any god exists. Nothing more, nothing less.

An Atheist is one who does not believe in any sort of God or deity. Instead of looking for truth in scripture, an Atheist looks for it in reason and logic, finding themself often looking to scientific discoveries.

Atheism isn't a religion. It's a lack of belief in the existence of deities. That's it.

its a label for the people who don't believe in higher beings such as God.
other atheists tends to be very radical about their perception towards "believers"...(it turns out to be like racism) while others are just "simple" atheist.
