Can't you just wear long sleves and pants to work. Most companies will let you cover them up. I have seen some people put make up over them too.

A few tattoos on your arms and legs and a few other places are distracting, show that you make poor desicions on placement of body art, therefore, not right for a job in sales. If I wanted people to buy a product from me, Id send the best looking, most dynamic people out there to represent my company. If I send out some gal with spiderwebs and tinkerbells adorning her arms and Im trying to sell medical supplies, more than likely, the customers will feel uncomfortable. No matter how mainstreem tattooing may have become, its still got the stigma of sex, drugs and rock & roll behind it, and that does not equal sales potential, it equals a party attitude. Companies can pretty much just say, 'you dont have enough experience' or 'we have a candidate that is bi-lingual and that's a plus you dont have, so we are going with them'. Try "Wrecking Balm" tattoo removal is you are serious about a sales carrer, otherwise, try finding clothing that covers up your tats. Good luck...next tat, in a private place, eh?

Well i think they are wrong to judge you on the way you look. They should judge you n your abilities in the job, not appearance. I personally don't lke tattoos, but would never stop someone from getting a job because of them. If you are qualified for the job and have a nice personality, you should have got the position. Good Luck with others

It's completely wrong, but unfortunately they have the right to do it.
Private companies have the right to turn someone down for just about any reason they like. If there's some way you could hide all your tattoos at work, they may reconsider. But otherwise, you're out of luck.
My advice is to whine about it, and whine loudly. Particularly to the media. Because the more good, skilled people get turned down and make a fuss about it, the more these companies may budge to save face.

some companies have strict dress/appearance codes in place because of an image they're trying to portray of their business. The first impression you get of a business and their level of professionalism is the way their employees act and present themselves.
While I love tattoos and have 2 of them myself, I do understand that first impressions are the ones that last and in order to be taken seriously in the workplace, you have to look like someone who can best represent your career. If you dig tats and want to portray that lifestyle, get a job where your creativity will be appreciated and encouraged. Otherwise, expect to have doors closed in your face over and over again based on your appearance.

The answerer who says it's discrimination so they can't do it is wrong. The only discriminations that companies aren't allowed to apply are those prohibited by law--at present, sex, race, disability, and I *think* to some extent age.
You know there are companies that offer to remove your tattoos. Might even work. Would definitely cost.

It may not seem fair, but a private company can hire whoever it wants as long as it's not discriminating based on race, sex, or religion. They have the right to choose who they want to represent the company. Even if you're below deck all day long, you still represent the company.

No. That is descrimination. A company cannot do that, however they can make it difficult to work for them. They can make you cover them up, and depending on where they are this could be difficult. ie: They could make you wear pants even in the heat, to cover up tattoos on your legs.
Good luck and don't let them descriminate against you. Show them the type of person that you are...thats what matters, not tattoos!
