Your research is incredibly flawed. The UK does not, nor has any plans to use the Euro. We use British pounds; currently £1 is worth $1.99. The UK is controlled, surprisingly, by the UK government, our prime minister is Tony Blair (only for another 3 days, then it will be Gordon Brown) who acts essentially in the same way as your president does. The Queen has next to no power, in theory she could veto laws, but this hasn't happened for more than 200 years. The European Union, of which Britain and almost all of Western and many other European countries are members is gaining more control over the UK government and people, though the UK is still very independent in many aspects.
If you are going to live here, I suggest you do some better research than from whichever idiot said we use the Euro.

We use pounds and pence...we may be in Europe but we have kept our own currency....to work out how the dollar stands up against the pound $50.00 is about £25.00 ...the government here is not much better than that in any developed country, but the music, art and literature here is among the best anywhere.

So does everyone else, it seems. What's the attraction? It's cold, rains a lot and is full of really pi**ed off locals who can't get decent healthcare, can't find a dentist and cant find anywhere to live because of all the others who think like you.
By all means, however, come here on holiday for a few weeks. Believe me, you won't come back.

We still use pounds, not Euros, although by '09 that could have changed. But to be completely honest, I'd stay put in America, the UK has nothing better than the US to offer, Britain is a run down, seedy, over populated, poorly governed, politically correct, criminal ridden, frightened country which I think is about to go bust. And I do know what I'm talking about because I live here, I want to move to America!!

You are not ready to move to the U.K. They use pounds (GBP), and along with Denmark, did not vote for the Euro system.
And no, they have their own government and are not controlled b the U.S. Thank God.
Get a bit of education. You are embarrassing.

An immigrant strolling into England for financial benefits is still an immigrant, whether they are some backward Kurd or a redneck yank. I'd stay in the States if I was you, civil storm clouds are brewing over here.
