you said it yourself , is beacuse you connect the remote to the antenna lead, when the tuner is off or in cd mode the power in the antenna wire turns off. If you connect the remote wire to the accesory red wire, the amplifier will turn off, but if you turns the receiver off while driving the car the amplifier will be on, when is not supposed to. You need to find the remote wire on the stereo. If is an aftermarker cd player it should have a blue, white stripe wire that is the remote wire,. if is an stock cd player with no remote wire then you need to connect the remote wire to the radio fuse so it works only when the rqdio is on tuner/cd player/aux etc.

An alternative...

Run a fused (1 amp, 14 AWG) wire from a fuse in the fuse panel that only has power when the car is on to a switch. Then from the other side of the switch run the same sized wire to the REM (remote) connection on the amp. This allows for full control and you never have to worry about forgetting to turn off the amp. The switch is so you can turn off the amp at will so as not to give grandma a heart attack in the car.

Use a fuse tap that you can get from most any autoparts store.

You've answered your own question. The power antenna lead only activates when the tuner is on. Connect the REM wire to the blue/white remote output. If you don't have one, tap it into the red accessory power wire.
