I'm about 5'7, 117 pounds and I play volleyball so I'm constantly moving, excersising, practicing, etc. and I run so much and yet I never lose weight. I don't eat that much, I probably don't hit 1,000 calories a day so why do I always stay the same weight? Is it water weight? How do I get rid of some of the water if it is?

First off you should never eat under 1000 calories a day. It slows your metabolism and that is exactly why you are not losing any weight. If you eat too little and use up too many calories (through exercise, activities, sports) your body goes into what is called 'starvation mode.' It holds onto the fat you have because it thinks you are starving to death! You have to aim at finding a healthy balance of calories in and calories out to lose weight. Yo u are very active and it is clear you are not getting enough calories to support your body. Try eating MORE for a week or two. Yes more. It sounds backwards but it will shock your body out of starvation mode you you will be burning fat again. Aim for a bare minimum of 1200-1500 calories, never any lower.

Are you worried about "weight" or "fat" or "my body shape" ?

"Weight" is probably not the right thing to worry about - as long as you're healthy and it sounds like you are.

"fat" is probably not an issue in your case. Sure, maybe you can pinch an inch here and there but from your Q I doubt you're a lardo. If it bugs you, go to a health club and get a bodyfat measurement, under 25% for women is normally ok. Under 12% or so is like Olympic athlete. Under 6-8% is dangerous.

So I guess you're stressing about "body shape" so you're not happy with your butt or your belly or whatever? At your height and weight, and if you're _really_ only doing 1000 cals a day, I'd say you're a candidate for eating disorder / body image issues. Maybe you should talk to the fitness trainer at the gym, see what a pro thinks?

Best,
Scott

for most there is a metabolic set point where the bodyweight will stay the same even when there is regular exercise. but in your case at your weight and level of activity there is no way you will lose weight on 1,000 cals a day. 4 year olds need a lot more calories than that daily.

You don't need to lose weight. It is probably because your body is used to what you are doing right now. It also depends on what you are eating. If you are eating things such as bread, pasta, beef, etc, they are high in fat. Don't only look at calories.

This will change with age, change in diet and activity. Health and medicines can also change weight, tremendously. 1,000 calories a day does not sound adequate.
