He can stop it's effects because He can do all things. However, He usually doesn't. We must learn from our mistakes and see firsthand the consequences of our actions.

He can, but usually doesn't. It really depends on the sin, the repentence, the circumstances, and the faith of the one asking. For example...I had an aunt who smoked for years, developed lung cancer, and was pronounced a lost cause by the doctors. She turned to God (as people often do when things look grim), repented, and stopped smoking (some said too late). She asked God to heal her, and several family members and church members prayed with her and for her for God to heal her. Her faith and the faith of those who cared for her helped her carry through...then one day, the doctors checked her and found not one sign of cancer...none. They were astonished, but those who had prayed for her were not, and they gave God praise for his work in healing her. But she still died...she had a stroke a few months later. She had an opportunity for repentence and forgiveness and took it, and then her time was up. So, in answer to your question, YES, HE CAN! And sometimes, depending on circumstances, he will. Depends on His will, and what is best for you. It sometimes doesn't seem like He is paying attention, or that He is doing what is best for you...but what He knows is best really is better than what we, as humans, THINK is best. It is all a matter of faith. Good luck on your journey!

Great question.

The way you state it though, implies some doubt of forgiveness., or that being forgiven does not matter to the aggrieved party.

God forgives sin when we are truly penitent for our actions. I would contend that we are not truly blemish free unless we atone in some way. If we ask a person to forgive us for trespasses against them, and they do, then the mercy they bestow not only blesses us, but them as well.

Once a sin is committed, the results of it will have to be lived with. But God, in His infinite wisdom, mercy and love sees to it that once we have admitted to Him that we have sinned and ask the Lord to forgive us, we are then forgiven, In the Bible, Isaiah 43:25 assures us that once our sins are forgiven, "God no longer remembers them." Now, that's great news!

if a god can forgive sin, why would he want to change it's effects? we seem to learn best from our mistakes.

The Bible says "we reap what we sow". Sin has consequences. I think that is one reason that God warns us so many times about the danger of sin. He knows that it brings heartache and destruction.

God can, but He won't. That's like bailing your kids out when they blatantly defied your instructions, and got in trouble. They need to know there are consequences for their actions.

absolutely

The word that was translated "saved" in the new testament is an all incompassing word. "sozo" if memory serves. It means "saved" "healed" "delivered from enemies" in other words he wants to bring us to a place as if we had never sinned. And that's why Jesus died for us.
