Can cats be farsighted or nearsighted?

I love it.. can a cat wear contact lenses..
The answer is no.. but in keeping with the concept of contacts.. yes they could reflect the light in a way to improve sight.. only.. currently made contacts are not constructed for the physical shape of a cats eye.. nor it's mechanical characteristics..

The real problem is that without that opposable thumb to aid in opening the packages they would came in.. they don't stand a chance in putting them in let alone changing the lens..

** I know I know.. cats can't do that!! .. .. that is the point.. **

If a lens needed removing or changing or fixing.. a cat can't do that.. you'd' run the risk of hurting the cats eye from improper use of a contact lens..

To bad.. cause that would be a million dollar idea if it could be done.. 8- (

(LOVE THE QUESTION)

Actually, believe it or not there are specialist feline opthalmologists (cat eye doctors) who make contact lenses for cats - not really for far or near-sighted eyes though, usually for problems with the eyes that need the protection of lenses. This sort of specialist treatment is extremely expensive!

There's no real way to see if cats are near or farsighted, you don't see them squinting! Plus the changes causing this are not evident on an eye exam. Generally only eye problems like cataracts, ulcers, tears, blindness etc are evident.

Cats cannot wear contact lenses. However, if you do have a problem with your cat's eyesight you sure seek veterinary advice as it can be a symptom of other illnesses.

I own a cat who has gone blind due to kidney failure, the blindness was the first symptom we noticed and now she is on tablets for her condition.
