Not only do I own a chihuahua, but my mother rescues them Some things you do need to know about the breed are:
~ They are a vocal breed, but they are not constant barkers. Of coarse you can get a barker in this breed such as any breed. They do express themselves vocally alot. You will hear them make almost a cooing noise when happy. They will whine when happy or upset. And they are great guard dogs despite thier size.
~ They tend to be a one person dog. The dog will pick their person and that will be it. Some dogs will tend to be aggressive towards other people, but some are affectionate to everyone. My mother's dog PJ is madly in love with her, but loves everyone. Not as much as my mother but very much.
~ Potty training these dogs can be difficult, but it is possiable.
~ These dogs do not get along well with children. They tend to be nervous around fast, jerky moving objects. They are notourious "fear biters" meaning when scared, they bite.
~ Socializing is key with these little tikes. As a pup bring these guys everywhere, the park, the pet store, friends houses, anywhere that is pet friendly. Allow strangers to pet your dog, other dogs (that you know and know they are dog friendly) sniff and play with your puppy. This will not only make your day watching your puppy's personality grow but also you will do your puppy untold good.
No a chihuahua does not shed!
The best thing that I can recomend is to do your research. The AKC has an amazing site where you can do your research. Make sure that you are prepared to be a forever home to a dog that can live 15-20 years, and not just getting one because they are Hollywoods newest accessary (which is why most people are getting them right now). But I recomened www.petfinder.com you can get a pure bred dog there for cheap AND you're rescuing and animal.

You won't be able to find a dog anywhere that doesn't shed. They all do, despite what some breeder may tell you. Second, all chihuahuas are a toy breed. There is no such thing as a teacup chihuahua. I should know because I raise them. Chihuuahuas are great. One thing that helps reduce shedding is a good quality dog food. We feed our pups Nutro Ultra Puppy. It is guaranteed to improve skin and coat.

there is no such thing as a teacup anything.. no registry recognizes the size "teacup".. its only a marketing term used by back yard breeders and millers to insinuate that the dog will be smaller than standard. Chi's only come in one size.

Yes, Chi's shed. Anything with hair sheds. Some dogs shed more than others. Even poodles shed, just not as much as other breeds. My hairless Chinese Crested has a little hair, and he does shed.. he sheds less than I do, but he still sheds.

Yes, chihuahuas are shorthaired dogs but they do shed.
There is no such thing as a "teacup" in any breed.
Unfortunately there are backyard breeders who are breeding small dogs to smaller dogs to produce what they can claim to be "teacups" so they can attract buyers with the idea that they have something "special". This is an unscrupulous practice because responsible breeders breed to preserve & improve a breed as described
in a written standard. Breeding to emphasize a single characteristic (i.e. smallness of size) compromises the integrity of EVERY OTHER characteristic and the result is an unsound, incorrect dog. These dogs are very fragile and unheathy and a type that no responsible breeder would breed! All, in all the practice of breeding so-called "teacups" or "minis" is a dangerous corruption of the breed. Please don't support this unethical practice.

Every living thing sheds. I usually shed after a cup of coffee in the morning, but some people have to eat before they shed.
If living things didn't shed it would probably come out their ears.

The only dogs that don't shed come from toy stores and are plush.

ALL DOGS SHED

If that bothers you, don't get one.
