It depends on the casino, but some slots have a big sign above them claiming 97% payout (or better like 98 or 99 etc). These slots have a lower house edge than normal, which is a good thing.

Then whatever you play play maximum lines maximum credits. If you don't do this you will not get a shot at the biggest prizes if you win. So you always want to do this. Sometimes a two or three credit 25c one line machine, is better value than a penny slot with dozens of lines and lots of credits (can end up costing a couple of dollars a spin).

Personally I like to play progressive machines, since I'd rather have a lower chance of winning a life changing sum rather than a smaller prize.

There is no skill involved in playing slot machines and the only way you can overcome the casino's advantage and win is with a lot of luck. Slot machines determine their payout with a random number generator, which stops and determines the result when you push the spin button. How lucky you are only depends on the exact millisecond you hit the spin button, whatever happened before your spin is irrelevant. The spinning wheels or display screen is just to make things more exciting.

There are magazines that provide recent payout averages for each denomination machine at each casino. Generally the larger denominations return a higher percentage. Usually 90-95% in Atlantic City, sometimes more in Las Vegas. But also consider that if you gamble more per game you will also lose more per game. For example, you will probably get a better return playing 25 cents at a time on a quarter machine than a nickel machine, but if you increased your bet to 75 cents to play quarters, you will probably lose a lot more money despite the slightly increased payback percentage.

If you aren't putting in maximum coin, play a machine where there is no extra reward for maximum coins. For example, if the jackpot is 1000 for 1 coin, 2000 for 2 coins, and 10000 for 3 coins, your payback percentage is reduced by playing only 1 or 2 coins. If the 3 coin jackpot is instead 3000, then the payback percentage is equal regardless of the number of coins played. (The fact that the jackpot is less in the 2nd example doesn't make the machine worse, it is probably paying more on the lesser wins or awarding more jackpots to compensate.)

You should also look into comps and cash back available. Some casinos reward their gamblers better than others. Sometimes you can only figure out how good the rewards are from experience, somtimes the casinos tell you the percentage you earn in cash back and/or comps. Usually there are also a lot of bonus offers you will get in the mail, sometimes for cash, sometimes for gifts. So if possible it is best to plan your trips for days where you can get some extra gift or cash bonus.

Sorry, but the slots are one of the worst bets in the casino, however they are alot of fun. I love playing the slots, when I play I usually play the one or five dollar ones, always play max credits if you can afford to do so. I also like playing the progressives, I figure if I hit something it might as well be a huge jackpot. Always sign up for a players card at any casino that you go to because you will get some free stuff in the mail after awhile. I would also recommend to try to learn videopoker, you will have better odds. Good Luck and have fun.

For slots if you are looking for more payouts in smaller amounts and a better chance at the jackpot, then you will want to play machines with less symbols and lower jackpot amounts. If you are just looking for the big score then you would play machines like 10X and 5X pay, and R/W/and Blue.

Always look at the payout board to make sure if you need to put the maximum amount of coins in to activate all of the symbols. I have seen many times somebody win a lot of money but only had 1 coin in so they got nothing. i.e. Blazing 7's.

I hate to disappoint you, but there's really no strategy or skill involved when playing slots. Winning is a matter of being in the right place at the right time. For the most part, you're merely a spectator, hoping that luck goes your way.

If you like the machine games, consider video poker. You must make a decision with every hand, and the player's skill level is a definite factor in the long run.

I know of nobody who makes a living playing the slots. Blackjack, or 21, yes if you can count cards and have some luck and not be spotted as a counter and get thrown out. Poker, if you are a good player and a little lucky can provide constant profits, too, but no other game in a casino will do this for you. Sorry. :-)

Don't play slots period. They're all rigged, and a BIG waste of money. Why do you think they have casinos with just slot machines in them? Because they're making huge profits. There is a new casino in Erie Pennsylvania with only slot machines that has actually already got in trouble by the gaming commission for not paying out enough money. It is actually cheaper for them to pay these fines from the gaming commission than to pay out more money on their machines. Check it out for yourself!!! You have no chance to hit it big. Your odds are much much better playing table games.
