I am a muslim girl born and raised in a muslim society where Islamic relegion was taught to us in school since the very early stages. Recently I took an Islamic culture in my uni with an amazing professor who studied in the U.K. . The more I listen to him the more I realise how amazing our relegion is and how my school teachers taught a lot of wrong things about Islam, things that I took for granted and things that I beleived to be part of my relegion even if I wasn't too convinced about. And now comes this professor who changes my whole outlook on my own relegion!!! I am still in shock right now. I have learned that black magic doesn't even exist, Jin can not go inside u, it is not a sin if u had male friends, we are not supposed to walk around lowering our eyes because we should "ghad al bassar". I used to think that only terrorists are spreading misconceptions about Islam when most of us are doing so without even realising it.
So my question to u is: are u sure that what the peopl

To Jen:
I do know that witchkraft is mentioned in the qura'an. However I beleive that Allah is only asking us not be stupid enough and fall for what people have to say about whitchkraft but instead we should turn to Allah and beleive tha no but Him knows the future or can do anything to anybody as jen are only his creatures.
As far as my professor goes, he only pointed the road of knowledege and research to me and here I am discovering something new everyday not only beleiving what others have to tell me. Al hamdu lilah.

To Malak:
I am talking about having male friends and not beiong alone with males in a private place, there is a difference. And having male friends I beleive is halal if it was contained in the right limits and the rules that Allah has given us inorder to organize the realtionship between males and females.
As for lowering ur gaze, we are not accepted to walk around with our eyes fixed to the ground not knowing whjere are we going or who we might bump into. However it is required that we do not stare at the other gender. And this is just common sense! it's not like we're animals and sex is all we think about if we looked inocently at a male, and that's why God has stated that the first look is always allowed even if ur eye caught something undecent.

Hon a very strict Sharia course would teach anyone all they need to learn about Islam.

Personally things like: 1. how a jinn can go inside you and wat not. there are no proof either in the Quraan or the Sunna to this and why anyone would say it is beyond me

2. Were not meant to go around lowering our gaze, were supposed to refrain from staring at people, especially when theyre naked or something, and this is common sense.

And yes Id have to agree with you on the last bit there, terrorism isnt just misconception, its an entire twist of the teachings.

People create misconceptions when they stray off the path of common sense and intelligence and into the path of suspicion and superstition.

Im happy youve learned much and came to realize what your missing out on tho :)

God bless

I know enough about my religion and if I have a question about something I can either ask my husband who knows about how Islam is supposed to be since he was born, raised and taught Islam in KSA(Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) or I can refer to the Qur'an and Hadiths. I think your teacher is an idiot. Women are required to lower their gaze when they are around strange men who aren't their mahrams because it says so in the Qur'an for men and women. And dear women aren't allowed to have male friends and men aren't allowed to have female friends because it says that in the Qur'an as well or in the Strong Hadiths. You should follow the Qur'an and the strong Hadiths and study them both and you'll realize that your teacher has no idea what Islam teaches. Sura 2 speaks about witchcraft.

Sura 2:102-103

102.They pursued what the devils taught concerning Solomon's kingdom. Solomon, however, was not a disbeliever, but the devils were disbelievers. They taught the people sorcery, and that which was sent down through the two angels of Babel, Haroot and Maroot. These two did not divulge such knowledge without pointing out: "This is a test. You shall not abuse such knowledge." But the people used it in such evil schemes as the breaking up of marriages. They can never harm anyone against the will of GOD. They thus learn what hurts them, not what benefits them, and they
know full well that whoever practices witchcraft will have
no share in the Hereafter. Miserable indeed is what they sell
their souls for, if they only knew.

103.If they believe and lead a righteous life, the reward from
GOD is far better, if they only knew.

where does it say in Islam that men and women can be friends? Islam says when a man and woman are alone together the devil is also present. What does this mean to you? I'm beginning to wonder if the professor was looking for "friends." And also, what did this professor study? The Qur'an is clear about the lowering of the eyes, for example, translation of Surah Nur (24:31): “Tell the believing women to lower their eyes, guard their private parts, and not display their charms except what is apparent outwardly, and cover their bosoms with their veils and not to show their finery”. Are you upset by this ayat? I didnt know it is a big issue to not stare at men, or men at women, who would feel comfortable doing that anyway. I think you need to see an Islamic scholar for advice and knowledge instead of someone university "professor."

meeting someone claiming that Einstein was wrong does not necessarily mean He was wrong...

Wrong concepts are everywhere, For instance some claim that The black art does not exist while:

"And follow that which the devils falsely related against the kingdom of Solomon. Solomon disbelieved not; but the devils disbelieved, teaching mankind magic and that which was revealed to the two angels in Babel, Harut and Marut. Nor did they (the two angels) teach it to anyone till they had said: We are only a temptation, therefore disbelieve not (in the guidance of Allah). And from these two (angles) people learn that by which they cause division between man and wife; but they injure thereby no-one save by Allah's leave. And they learn that which harmeth them and profiteth them not. And surely they do know that he who trafficketh therein will have no (happy) portion in the Hereafter; and surely evil is the price for which they sell their souls, if they but knew." (The Cow - 102)

Having male friends is not a sin as long as it's within the limits of due respect and brotherhood:

"O mankind! Lo! We have created you male and female, and have made you nations and tribes that ye may know one another. Lo! the noblest of you, in the sight of Allah, is the best in conduct. Lo! Allah is Knower, Aware." (The Chambers - 149).

Our reference is the holy Quran, to avoid misconception.. We are not supposed to take what everyone say, we're supposed to research by ourselves:

"Will they not then ponder on the Qur'an? If it had been from other than Allah they would have found therein much incongruity." (Women - 82)

We must study ourselves. Quran is our reference....

God Bless...

Edit: To Malak: The devil is always present: "The devil promiseth you destitution and enjoineth on you lewdness. But Allah promiseth you forgiveness from Himself with bounty." (The Cow - 286)

yes i'm sure of Islam. I'm so glad that finally some people are being educated about the real meaning of Islam. Thats what the Muslim world lacks. Proper intepretation. I also found out that A LOT of Islamic books coming out of the Indian continent are so false!! I think its cause of the male dominated society where men like to act as if they are so great and clever and they bring on their own interpretations to feel scholarly. Who can challenge them in a culture that does not encourage research. people that grow up in muslim communities just believe what their told cause its the easy way out. I'm glad that you love Islam. Its really cool & comprehensive and completely relevant and peaceful ^.^

i'm no longer a Muslim. i'm Christian. I even have not at all knowingly abused or denigrated any way contributors of different religions. My view is that on the inspiration of all religions is the honour for God or in spite of he's observed as in a undeniable faith, and understand for all mankind.the final public of individuals try this and it basically has a tendency to be a minority in each and each faith that distort or misread the instructions for his or her own ends.the different enormous concern is that maximum of individuals inspite of the fact that termed as being of a undeniable faith are no longer non secular in any respect interior the authentic experience yet will react very violently or loudly while their perceived faith is criticised. i ought to quote the present demonstrations against the ecu cartoons , what does it count what others would say it does not modify your authentic concept and in my opinion basically makes kin between the religions worse quite than develop them as i'm confident that the final public would desire. Please do no longer tar all Christians with an analogous brush as i'm confident that each and absolutely everyone Muslims are no longer hotheads or terrorists.the international isn't against Islam as such. basically people who elect to take the call of Allah in ineffective.

Al-falaq which is the second to last chapter in The Quran speaks of witchcraft. So I do not know where your professor is getting his information. I think you should wonder why he is saying things like this and where is his proof. If this second to last sura is saying we should seek refuge with Allah(swt) to protect us from evil and witchcraft this means witchcraft exist.
So are you sure of what your believing or when someone tells you the sky is purple you believe.
There are many Hadiths and verses which speak of the jinn and witchcraft all you have to do is look.

Mountains may move from their position but you should not move from yours. Grit your teeth. Lend to Allah your head (in fighting for Allah, give yourself to Allah). Plant your feet firmly on the ground. Have your eye on the remotest foe and close your eyes (to their numerical majority). And keep sure that succour is but from Allah, the Glorified.
