It does sound like he is sick. Do you want to run and play when you do not feel good. You need to get him feeling better. Is he a large dog or a small dog. The small the dog the longer he will live, the larger the dog the shorter the life span. I hope the vet can help your dog.

People keep saying '7 is not old', but it is in some breeds - it's ancient for a Great Dane for instance! What breed is your dog?
I'm glad you're bringing him to the vet, because he does sound pretty ill. I'm afraid you do need to accept that animals don't stay puppies forever, they can't be bouncy and energetic always! Getting help for him at the vet will make him happier and healthy, but of course he'll never be a puppy again.
Just concentrate on working with a vet to get him better at the moment!

You are a good owner to notice these changes in your dog and it is a good thing that your parents are taking him to a vet because when a pet starts behaving very differently from what you are used to, there is usually something going on.
Seven years is not terribly old in a dog that has been well taken care of, and many dogs are active and playful at that age, so the fact that your dog has lost weight, gets tired easily and isn't as affectionate as you are used to is a sign that he needs to see a doctor.
If you lost weight, didn't want to eat and didn't hug or play with your parents--I'm sure they would take you to a doctor, so taking your pet to the vet is the right thing to do.
I hope he is feeling better soon. Good luck!

Ok well once they are out of their puppy stage they probably wont be a puppy anymore. If he isnt eating you need to take him to the vet, he could have parasites or some other disease.
Some more about the puppy thing, my dog she is a little over a year now, and when we got her, her owner said she weened her at 4 wks and that is way to early to ween a puppy. So our vet said she will probably act like a puppy from now on because of that security that she didnt have with her mom. She is a mini schnauzer. Now since your dog is getting older he will probably start to wind down becasue he is almost 50 years old in dog years and that is old for a dog.

Well how my dog died was she was just barking at some kids and then she had stroke or something and she was gone. She was only eight. It depends on what type of dog you have. If you have a small dog then old is like 10 years. if you have a big dog then 7 is sorta old. You should take it to the vet though. They will tell you what is happening.

The first thing to do is check the pet food recall and make SURE you are not feeding him any product from the list. You can check the list here: http://www.menufoods.com/recall/index.html
Check the list carefully as it encompasses many brands and types of foods.
Another common problem that can cause the symptoms you describe is parasites. Avoid self-diagnosis and over-the-counter remedies, however. Take the dog to the vet, have him do a blood test and a fecal test to determine if and what kind of parasite is infecting the dog. If there is a problem, the vet will prescribe a safe and effective treatment.
Your dog's lethargy and lack of appetite are urgent issues that MUST be checked out immediately by a veterinarian. Your dog can't tell you what's wrong but his symptoms scream "help me!" and it's our job as companions to be sensitive to their needs. 7 is "middle age" for most dogs. Hopefully, with the right care, your doggy will be running and licking your face again!

Is he a pure breed because 7 isn't that old, but pure breed dogs have a lot more health problems then mutts do. My German Shepard/Husky was 15 before she started having problems but my pure breed Rottweiler was only 6 before he got cancer. I know how you feel your dog is like you baby it's so sad to see them like that. Good luck maybe the vet can help figure out whats wrong.

Taking him to the vet is the best thing to do. He may have arthritis, or he could have cancer, he could also have a blockage. A vet can diagnose the problem and hopefully get him back on track with some meds.
