I want to be a fireman, but i need a job that has enough pay and benefit to protect a family. Is it a good enough job to support a family by itself? Does it come with health benefits and like insurance and pension and all that stuff that will cover me and my family? If it varies by city, i live in Los Angeles or more specificly, San Gabriel Valley. I want to make a difference in people's lives, but my family comes first, so does it pay enough to support a family? And what kinds of benefits does it give me? In general, will it give me enough to live a comfortable life, including retirement?

Most firefighter jobs pay reasonably well for supporting a family, and provide benefits, and allow for fairly early retirement compared to office jobs. But be aware that it's a hard and dangerous job.
