Hi there.
Is there a reason why it has to be a Harmon Kardon system? There are three basic rules to putting to-gether or improving a sound system. These rules are always the same, regardless of the size or price of the system. This is the key to understanding how to create a successsful system from the hundreds of components available.
1.The equal importance of all parts-the balanced approach
2.Keeping it simple and minimizing change
3.View the system as a whole.
The recorded information is retrieved from the software (CD,DVD,Records,Tape, and Radio),converted to an electrical signal and sent to the electronics. The electronics produce a larger copy of that signal and then send it to the speakers. The speakers convert the signal into the sound that you hear.Information is passed down a chain ,from one component to the next ,and in only this direction. The most important fundamental is that nothing in the chain can improve upon what is sent to it. And like a chain ,all the "links"are equally important.Contrary to popular belief ,the speakers are of equal importance-not more or less important than any other part of the system.
This is the part that upsets A/V enthusiests so i will get some nasty comments from them with the "THUMBS DOWN" to register their disgust .But take no notice of them ,they are not audiophiles.
From the beginning of the system to the end, nothing can improve the original signal. The very best equipment simply does not degrade the original signal as much as lesser equipment does .If information is lost or damaged (distorted, changed, altered) at the source ,nothing else down the chain can make up for, or repair it.You simply must put something good into the system to get something good out.
This is what others can't understand. They think by changing the speakers with "better" ones the sound will improve. But it can't it only gives you a different sound which they see as an '"improvement" to the sound.
So if you would like a quality sound system ,start from the source. Get the best you can afford .Buy good interconnects from the source to the amplifier. If you are only going to listen to music get the best Stereo Amplifier you can afford. One with a good Pre-Amp,Power-Amp intergrated Amplifier. Depending on your budget if you can buy a separate Pre-Amp and Power Amp(s) you will have a better signal to drive the speakers.Listen to as many speakers as you can to find the ones that appeal to you and dont forget speaker cables ,they will also influence the final sound. I will list a few items for you to think about.
If you can afford it the Rotel Pre -Power combination would be excellent. These are recommended retail prices.By shopping around you could get them cheaper.

I would suggest you to get a newer model car, or if you have the money go change everything in your car for sound quality, N reg ford fiesta is a 96 car, now is like 14 years old. If you want to work on that car sure go head, get a new Radio fist, Alpine CDA-9884 is enough, and alpine type R speakers you don't really need change the speaker cables on the door speakers, you might need a 4 channel amplifier for the new speakers, also adding a subwoofer would also helps a lot, all together your are looking about 500 to 700 dollars to upgrading the sound in that car I don't know if that even worth it or now since your car is like freaking out.

Companies that make great stereos usually don't make great speakers and vice versa...Harmon Kardon makes great stereos but only "okay" speakers...Get your stuff separate...Don't get it all in one box.
Demo your speakers by themselves...Choose your stereo on "convenience" features...How many inputs do you need? How many speakers will I have? Will the remote work with my other stuff? How much power do I need?

Me personally don't like them as a manufacturer because I have bought equipment from them and it was faulty.
