On some resumes, Career counselors recommend putting professional organizations and union in which a person belongs to or assoicated with on their resume; does that include the following; NAMBLA, PPFA, ACLU, among others?

Putting NAMBLA on a resume would be a very bad idea. And just how is it a professional organization? I don't think I even want to HEAR an answer to that! ;-{

PPFA - never heard of that one, and an internet search turns up several organizations. Professional Picture Framers Association? Sure. Planned Parenthood? Why would you put that - unless it has relevance to the job you're looking for.

ACLU only if it has relevance.

NAMBLA isn't a professional association and would rule out all jobs from decent people.
