There are too many conditions that affect mood to name. You can't tell conditions apart just by mood swings. They have to be diagnosed. Organic disorders are diagnosed by a medical doctor through physcial examination, blood tests, imaging and other diagnostic tests and bipolar is usually a differential diagnosis made by a psychologist or psychiatrist.
Start with a medical doctor first to rule out organic causes. If everything comes up negative, a referral to Mental Health is made.

It could be that you try to control your emotions and try to be a nice person and not loss your temper at something or some @$$ that you have to work with or around or something, but it gets to a point that you get tired of the Bull...t and you will blow your top and say just what you have been thinking about the whole mess and let the @$$ know where you stand and what he can do with all the Bulls..t that he has been dishing out and let him know what you will do if he tries this sh.t again. That is not Bipolar that is not standing up for your self in the first place trying not to have a conflict but it only got worse. I worked for a guy on a job that was the overbarring one. Another trade company ask him real nice to work in another part of the building for just 1 day so they could do their work and they would clean up the job sight cleaner that it was right then. My boss told him what he could do and his horse too. My boss didn't hardly get those words out of his mouth until the other guy kicked and beat my boss till he couldn't move. the amblance came and got my boss and they put the other guy off the job sight. My boss made it back before the end of the day broke ribes and all stiched up. And he asked me if I had seen what happened? And I said "yes" , and he asked me why I didn't help? I told him that the Big-O-Boy didn't need any help! He let me go a few days later but I was tired of his Bulls..t anyway, he always though he was mean but he misjudged a man that was trying to work with him in a nice way.

Stress can cause mood swings, Hormones can cause moodswings. If you are a Female Increase in estragen can cause them . Ther are many reasons why you could be having mood swings. Change if life style, not enough sleep, new medication or increase in dosage. Bipolar is moe than just a mood swing, your whole personality changes, you can become violent, it's like you can literaly see your body change into someone different. There is a huge difference between a Mood swing & Bipolar. I hope this helps. cheryl mom to Brendan

Hi. I am the oldest of 3 children and take care of my 53 yr old mom who has had MS for the past 20 yrs. It started progressing the last 10 yrs, she has frequent mood swings and memory loss. I have had to learn to become more patient with her and teach my children as well. It is very difficult at times, but i love my mom and I just deal with it. I am also a social worker that has many MS patients, it's weird they all have the same attitude. Stubborn is one of them, be prepared. MS is an awful disease. Good luck and hang in there.

Medications can cause Mood swings. For example, I was on this depression medication and one of the side effects was mood swings, and in order to balance that out I had to take another medication which made me lose my hair, Thank goodness this was all temporary. Good luck with your search.

Low blood sugar can cause mood swings My dad was diabetic and if he took too much insulin it was like he became a totally different person. Go get some blood tests done, may be diabetes or hypoglycemia. Both are very manageable.

First, a Doctor is the only one who can tell them apart; other causes may be a faulty thyroid, depression, menopause...
