The prediction about the world ending comes from the Mayan Civilisation and is not connected to global warming.
A very similar question has just been asked so you'll find further answers here http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiFztn63eErPk4U5M48GxfAS.Rd.?qid=20070624122816AAl5aZ8 below is the answer I gave to the question...
The Mayan's were a very advanced civilisation but their record of predictions is not a good one. The year 2012 is only the year in which the Mayan calander ends, there are no predictions for the end of the world, this is something that people like to take out of context because it makes for interesting reading.
According to the Mayans the world is only 6,000 years old. Advanced though they were their knowledge of time wasn't all that good.
And don't forget, all those predictions that the world would end on 06-06-06 and 01-01-01, we're still here.

I don't think you're thinking about global warming. The 2012 date came from the Mayan calendar.
Basically, some people claim that the Mayan calendar has never been wrong. Well, the Mayan calendar says that the end of the world is in December 2012. Maybe that is what you heard.
Personally, I don't believe that. No one knows the exact date of the end of human existence. But, even if the Mayans are true...what are we to do about it? Should we just sit in a corner and worry about it? No, we should continue to live our lives as we do and when the time comes for us to leave, we will.

Fear can be a powerful thing. So can money.
How much power and money do you thing the average scientific researcher has? It's probably pretty close to the average Starbuck's employee. If we weren't funding global warming research in the billions of dollars every year, the vast majority of these researchers would see their income AND power reduce to almost zero. So, for the same reason that Starbuck's employees are promoting coffee drinking even though they know it's not the best for you, Climatologists are promoting the fear of Global Warming, even though they know it's an exaggeration.
It's called biting the hand that feeds you - you try not to do it if you want to keep getting fed.
Chill. Continue to conserve energy/resources. There is a LOT to enjoy about life if you build upon the positives...

2012 is the end of the Mayan calender[long calendar] and it signals the end of a cycle on planet earth..it does not signal the end of the world or human life...the changes have began and will continue past 2012. the Mayan calender was written thousands of years ago before global warming was ever made up...this planet goes through various cycles and the one in 2012 is a 26,000 year cycle coming to an end and then a new beginning.........look inside of yourself for answers and comfort and do not be afraid...fear will be a passing concept when all is said and done and a new dawn of consciousness will emerge

Each and every generation since man began to talk has predicted 'the end'. We are still here. However, there are more of us here now than ever before and we're making a bigger impact than we ever have.
There is no point to allowing your fear to control you. Take it and do something positive with it.
Each community has programs set up for cleaning and monitoring the pollution problem areas. They are usually run by, and staffed by volunteers. Become one.
Working toward a goal of improving things, rather than cringing away from the problem will make you feel better than all the words any of us can give you.

If global warming really is happening (and, the data seems to prove it), it won't happen by 2012. It will take 50-100 years before it begins impacting life on earth.

If you are afraid of Global Warming then start to do something about it. Get involved in recycling or get a petition together for everyone to sign to get your government to start to do something to clean up the enviornment around you're city/state/country.
Don't worry about dying. It happens to everyone someday and you can't stop it at all from happening.
Live your life

I am scared too, but not of global warming (which is not really much of a danger to most of us). I'm scared that people like you are so easily paniced by failed politicians with an agenda and Hollywood celebrities who have less brains than an amobea. You are being used and you do not even know it. The problem is, you are being used by these slugs and their ilk to deprive me of my freedom of choice. This is why I am scared.
