I know this is like the 15th time hes got penalized in all the time he's been a crew chief, and like the 4th or 5th time since like 2001, but he's a good crew chief and a good guy. I mean you have to push the rules so you can have an advantage and try to contend for the win, and all the crew chiefs cheat, its just a matter of who gets caught. I mean seriously some push the rules more then the others and if you get caught you serve your penalty and come back and push the rules some more and find new ways to cheat, because like Chad said himself, if you win a race and you are working on 9 different ways to make your car better someone else is working on 10 just so they can beat you. I mean seriously you have to try and find new ways to stay ahead of the other teams and thats why you have to find new ways to stay ahead of the curve all the time. That's how you succeed. He just likes to push the rules more then some of the other crew chiefs do.

Chad Knaus is a great crew chief. He doesn't get away with things. Remember last year at the Daytona 500? He got sent home and was suspended for 4 races. That's way more than a slap on the wrist.

This time around Chad wasn't cheating. The rule violation they got hit with friday wasn't even on the books; it was a call NASCAR made from the hip.
However Chad has cheated way too many times in the past and he should;ve known that playing around in a grey area would only lead to trouble. He'll probably get off during the appeals process (which will be long and ugly); but Chad needs to knock it off.
I say if he gets caught again violating a "written" rule he should be suspended for 36 races. He has cheated too many times in the past to just give him a 6, 10, or 20 race suspension.
As for NASCAR; they need to stop writing the rulebook in pencil and start using a pen. The constant changing of the rules from week to week is rediculous and needs to stop. It's difficult to tell who is really cheating or who just didn't get the memo with NASCAR being all schizo with the rules.

knaus and latarte are great crew chiefs you are talking like a true hendricks hater
i think working on a car in the grey area is a far car from cheating what they did was not cheating when jr. had a infraction he was allowed to quailify and his wasnt even in the grey area he had unapproved parts on his car hms just worked on the car under the template area which would have been allowed had they not been winning so much this year the car still fit the template this proves if gordon haters cry loud enough that nascar will listen since they cant slow him down nascar will
and why was jr. allowed to quailify when he had a rules infraction and gordon and johnson not allowed to i think nascar should pull there head out of there a@#
if this isnt a blantant attempt to stop hendricks domination i dont what it is
go #24 drive for five despite what nascar want's

There is an old racing adage that goes, "If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'". All the really good crew chiefs "cheat" on a regular basis. There are many famous drivers and crew chiefs that are known for their bending of the rules.
Chad Knaus seems to be a bit cocky. I think he just has a lot of self confidence. He has proven that he is one of the best crew chiefs in the business.
How is a four race suspension considered a slap on the wrist?

He isnt the only one , you remember Gary Nelson working for NASCAR , he used to be Bobby Allisons crew chief before that. When NASCAR hired him to head up their tech team, most crew chief said you just got rid of 80% of the cheatin , casue he was the one doing it. Its not cheatin , its pushing the rules, you have to do it to get an advantage. If NASCAR is not going to allow them to do their own thing and push the rules or play at all , then they should turn it into a IROC series and hand the teams their cars when they get to the track.

It depends on what you as a fan expect from a crew chief. If you want a guy that decides on two tires or four and thats it,then Chad isn't your guy.But if your a fan that expects a crew chief to be inventive and aggressive with set-ups and tweaks, then there's none better then Chad.It will be interseting to see what Nascar does this week and if they punsih Chad and Latatrte severly, then as a fan I say lets race Iroc cars and be done with racing innovation.

i think chad should at least be suspended for about 10 races or something. i've said this before nascar shows pity to the stars of the sport. especially hms. nascar needs to punish the crew chiefs and drivers of hms who cheated more severely.

I think he's a great crew chief. How do you figure he is "always getting the little slap on the hand when other crew chief are suspend"?

He needs to go to the busch series since he doesnt take NASCAR seriously. Because the way that he races is an insult to all of the fans that would "kill" to race in NASCAR. He has a wonderful oppertunity and so far the only thing that he's been good for is screwing it up.
