If Dad wants to use the rectangles give him the option to pay for them. Otherwise stick to your budget and your plan.
You are a great woman for not being afraid to keep your wedding your way. I dont foresee your dad being upset about this as he should know he has a headstrong, smart and sassy daughter who is ready to take on the world as a wife!
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PENDING NUPTIALS!
i hope this helps

Im a wedding planner and there are both pro and cons to both. Round tables unless provided u have to rent. Then come the table cloths u have to rent. Yes I do agree round look great But I have seen alot of beautifully decorated rectangler tables and if the are free I would use then. I have seen marthas wedding ideas and all look great

You prefer rectangles. The rectangular tables are already there. You have plenty of ideas for decorating using rectangular tables.
Why would you spend more money on tables you don't like as much because someone else (not the groom) likes them better?
Save the money and spend it on something that will mean more to you.
Unless your father is paying for the wedding and determined to have his way no matter the cost, I think this is by far the most practical and best way to go.

If you like the rectangles, then go for that. Round tables are definitely traditional, but rectangles are just fine (and hey, anything that you can get for free is great!!).
The best wedding I have ever been to had one looooong line of rectangle tables, with the 'head group' sitting in the center, parents and immediate family across from them. The centerpiece spread all down the table and it was just incredible.

Use the rectangle tables, not because Stewart shows them in her magazine but because they are very nice. The only benefit of round tables is you can seat more people. Save the money on renting tables for something more important.

You seem to really want the rectangle ones. What does your fiance think? You are right that they can be decoracted beautifully, and lots and lots of people use them for weddings now, especially when there is a long guest list. They take up less space and can fit many more people. However, you should remember that this is your wedding, but if your father is paying for it, you should at the very least consider his thoughts as well.

I like the big rectangular tables, because it gives a lot of people a good chance to visit, instead of them just sticking with the eight people who sit at a round table. The rectangles are a LOT more fun to decorate, too.

Go with what YOU AND YOUR GROOM PREFER.
If you like the rectangle tables, then as you said, why waste money renting round tables. There can be a little more intimacy with round tables, BUT you can also have that with the rectangle tables, if they are set up right, IF you want that intimacy among your guests. The other advantage to the rectangle tables, more open space.

Your Father has a point , but this is your wedding, often time free just adds a little "glee" to it all and girl, when do u want to make ur own decisions even if the are wrong.. you would start to learn inter-dependence rather than just dependence. I think rectangular or round is a matter of individuality rather than sociatal-propriety... who set the standards for what should be or not.. dont you want to make a difference..? I know you should... Cheers and happy wedding life.... it might actually be "rectangular" after the "vows" hope you plan on staying with him and not seek further "change"

As a caterer I like rounds as they are easier to move. They both look good just different like apples and oranges. You might set them up at an angle so you wouldn't have the cafeteria feel or if there is space have a huge U or a couple of really long banquet tables like you see in the movies. That could be quite dramatic.

If you like them, use them. Personally, I wanted round because I kinda think round is more formal & wedding-ish. The only time I've really seen the rectangle tables used has been for birthdays & baby showers. But it's your wedding & your decision. Go with makes you happy. Good luck!
