The former is an abbreviation for the name of a religion, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; The Mormons.
The second is an abbreviation for lysergic acid diethalmide a hallucinogenic drug that acts on the serotonin receptor ... or if you live in downtown Chicago -- Lake Shore Drive.

BOTH have done society a LOT of harm!
E.g., about 3 decades ago, the Equal Rights Amendment was on the verge of its final ratification -- and then the LDS church publicly condemed it. And the Mormon-influenced states that were about to ratify it, didn't, and it was destroyed.
This may be the most FLAGRANT violation of the separation of church and state in American history, and it was unspeakably destructive. And ever since, I've had nothing but condemnation for that hate-cult.
