my opinion is that he's a jack ***. But I dont know if you can do anything legally if he tries to take the car, do some research. Ask that question in the law section of yahoo answers.

Legally, he very well may be able to do this, & I think he knew he would be able to all along. I've heard of quite a few guys "helping" a girl by putting a car in his name, letting her make the payments, & later taking the car. The worst part is that as long as his name is on the title, he can still likely do this. The good part is without your name on the title, if you refuse to make payments, he has to make them or it hurts his credit rating, not yours. You may wish to consult a lawyer & see if you have any legal recourse, but ultimately you may be best off cutting your losses, not paying another dime, & learning an expensive lesson. Whatever you do, don't keep him just to keep the car, as he'll be able to pull this stunt from now on as long as the title is not in your name, & he can do so within the boundaries of the law.

I'm so sorry you were hurt by your ex, but the car isn't "yours", even if you have been making payments. He has every right to take it back, legally speaking.
I was going to suggest taking him to small claims court for all the money you have put into the vehicle... but I doubt it would be a valid case as you probably don't have any written agreement between you 2 about payment plans.
Live and learn honey. NEVER pay for a loser's life unless you get your name on the contract.

I don't know what the laws are where you live - you may not have an option to keep the car if it is in his name.
It sounds like he is a creep and you have done yourself a huge favor by leaving. If you don't have too much into the car, walk away. Why give him any reason to be in your life?
Otherwise, you might be in for a court battle and that means more time around him. Blech.

Your boyfriend is a loser! Get rid of him. Tell him you want your car put in your name. If he doesn't want to do that, and if you have evidence that you have made the payments, You can take him to small claims court. It's cheap, easy, and it gets results... And next time you buy a car, put it in your name.

Sounds like he is going to take away "his car". He should at least thank you, for making the payments.

legally, you have no rights to the car - it is in his name and you are not married. unless you have a signed contract stating he did this for you and you are making all the payments, it is his and he can take it if he wants. it is not fair, but it is how the law works.

Nothing in this life is free honey, that's a good life lesson you are learning and it's good you are learning it young. Get your credit to gether, get a couple of jobs, save your money and buy your own car.

Give him back the car and the payments as well. If you have been making the payments on your own you should be able make a purchase on your own.

get your parents to talk to his parents sbefore its too late if it is in his name he can take it and his parents are the only ones that can stop that. his parents would mot likely listen to your parents over you since they are older. i hope you keep the car since it is rightfully yours as you payed for it
