I joined this church a few months ago and the ladies in the church encouraged me to get the gift of speaking in tongue. I finally got it. Now the ladies are telling me I should speak it every time I pray. I'm confused. Should I use it every time I pray? Shouldn't there be someone there to translate it for me?. I think the Bible says that,

Why are you making fun of it? It's only a question. I didn't ask for a put down, I asked for an answer. Geez

if you read the bible you will find that there are two manifestations of tongues.
one is the gift of tongues for the edification of the the church, and should only be used when there is an interpretation. which means there should be someone there to interpret or translate.
but the other is given as a prayer language. and this is the one that the ladies are encouraging you to use.
it is the holy spirit praying through you,
when you received the Holy Spirit, you received the manifestation of tongues not necessarily the gift of tongues.
that is your prayer language,
you might also have the gift of tongues. however it is a gift given by the holy spirit. do various believers, but not to all.
you did receive gifts of the spirit, there are nine of these, and the lord will reveal these to you in time.

smiley.george gave the best answer. those that deny the gift of tongues are denying the written word. you either accept the Word of God or you don't. tongues edifies, gives commands to angels and satan cannot understand it. it is praise, it's song, it is the manifestation of the Holy Spirit within you. When you are led to speak in tongues then do it....but it doesn't have to be every time you pray.

You can't be encouraged to receive the gift of tongues. You can only be encouraged to fake a gift of tongues.
The Holy Spirit gives gifts as God chooses. Demanding a gift for yourself is to place more faith in your own judgment than in the judgment of God.
If you have to ask for a specific spiritual gift you are following your own beliefs and the beliefs of others, not the will of God.

use it when your led to do so by the Holy Spirit, I speak in tongues sometimes when I pray but not all the time. Sometimes I go to pray at night when the Spirit will take over and I will end up praying in the Spirit...

Tongues should be translated when they are spoken in public ie. church. However, we should use tongues when we pray. When you come to a point in your spirit, when you don't have the words, then speak them out in your spiritual language which is tongues. Although we don't know what we are saying, God does, and that is what is important. It also says in the Bible, that using tongues build us up in our spirits, have you noticed how it does that!
I hope this helps.

john_d_ayer, has given you the best answer thus far. You should really take heed to that advice.
It is about seeking the will of God, not about speaking in tongues.

I think babbling isn't communication.
We did give you an answer, just because you do not like it doesn't mean that it isn't one. I guess I shouldn't point out that people who hear voices in their heads aren't crazy either, right?
I never meant you hearing voices, I was just pointing out why we take such a tone with people who believe in what some consider crazy things.
And yes, I am atheist.
