You will NOT get a mix of color - If I understand the genetics correctly, white is recessive so you'll get a litter of all black & tan unless the B & T parent has a white or white carrier in its prdigree. Now since whites are not allowed in the AKC ring there are few reputable breeders with them so - Make SURE he's got OFA hips & elbows and cerf eyes (rumor has more eye problems in the white) and Brucellosis check (dog STD contagious to your dog and you). You will need the same with your girl.

My GSD was almost all black as a 10 week old pup. Unfortunately I can't remember when she started getting her tan color but she certainly did and had beautiful coloring. Most GSD's are born black apart from a small area of tan on the chest. ADD: My GSD has a registered pedigree and was bred by an ethical breeder from black and tan parents who were show dogs.

First off don't even think about breeding! I'm am not trying to be rude or self righteous, but if you were a responsible breeder(the ONLY good reason to breed is to improve the breed) then you would know that white in a GSD is not allowed. they carry genetic defects, and pollute the breed. They can be wonderful pets, but if you truly love the breed, you wouldn't want to do anything which could harm it as a whole. If your GSD, is show quality with excellent health and temperament, then call your local breed club and they would love to hook you up with an experienced breeder who can show you the ropes and get you started in showing your dog. If he/she does well and gets his/her championship, or perhaps just some points under his/her belt, you may want to consider breeding him/her

That said, white is a recessive gene, meaning that in order to produce white pups, BOTH parents must be carriers of this gene. IF your dog, is a carrier of the white gene, then you MAY end up with white pups

It would not be the colour you should be thinking about. You may end up with a litter of pups with bad health problems.
Good GSD breeders do not breed white dogs on purpose, they suffer from health problems & should not be bred from.
Get in touch with your local breed clubs & do some reshearch
before even thinking about having a litter.

you could get a mix of colours most being darker after the mum black and tan but you may get some creams and whites and even some all blacks. could depend on what the mum and dad was like in both too. Good luck and remember gsd have big litters and are big pups.

Nice dog. Who knows what colour pups? I have a heavy Blaireau Pyrenean who's mum was pure white -- you'll find out, when the pups are born, which parent had the strongest genes.

You do know those white dogs aren't really GSD right?

Well, I would expect to see a mixture of black, tan, white, and brown among the pups. Don't expect any solid color pups, though.

probably a cute mix of colors...unfortunately...for every puppy you breed and sell, thousands of homeless shelter dogs will die. you are contributing to the problem.
