I have 2 German Shepherds. A male and a female. I love German Shepherds. I think they are very smart, loveable, loyal, and WONDERFUL WATCHDOGS.
I have seen all three of these breeds and I think they all have their good and bad points. I have seen some Rottweillers that are very mean and dangerous. My friend has a Rottweiller that I personally believe is dangerous. The dog has NEVER, EVER BEEN SOCIALIZED!!! They can control him pretty well at home, but forget about taking him on an sort of walk. GOD FORBIDS THAT HE ESCAPE FROM HIS YARD - i THINK HE WOULD DEFINATLY ATTACK SOMEONE.
There was a Doberman that lived a couple hpuses down from us in Texas that was so lovable, but kind of dumb. His owner was never home and so he roamed the neighborhood looking for someone to give him some love.
As with any dog, the way that they turn out as adults has to do with the owner and how much time they are willing to invest in the dog.
My dogs can be mean - defending their property. But at the same time if they get out they can be controlled by my voice. They know the basic commands - sit, stay, down, lay down, come, load up ( to get into a vehicle), out ( if they are not supposed to be in an area).
Please take the time to socialize your puppy or dog and get them used to all of the noise in the running of a house. Praise them when they do some thing - like coming back to you when you call them. Mkae sure that you spend some time with them every day - dogs are social animals by nature and like to be with their people.
Another probelm that people have is not establishing dominance. Dogs need to know that you are their leader and they will work hard to please you. If you are not sure what I am talking about, watch a show on wolves. There is always a "alpha" male and female. The alpha male and female run the show and all of the other wolfes defer back to them.
Like I said, it is all up to the owner as to how your dog turns out!!!!!

How is a small dog more dangerous than a large dog? I'm not saying these particular breeds are naturally aggressive, because they're NOT. But seriously, it's common sense that any large dog (even a Labrador) could do MUCH more damage than a small dog. I do NOT think these breeds are aggressive. Only in the wrong hands (like ALL dogs). It's pure ignorance; that is why people think they are aggressive. This question gets asked NUMEROUS TIMES! You never heard of a Chihuahua saving someones life, but I have. On the news, about a year ago. A deaf lady was sleeping, and the house caught on fire. The Chihauhua heard the fire alarm and woke her up. YES, this is true - I just cannot seem to find the link to it right now. I'll edit this when I do. NO they are not service dogs, but it DID save someones life. And this has NOTHING to do with what you're saying. You can even search on Google "Chihuahua saves life" and you'll see things popping up.

There's several factors and what is best for one isn't for someone else. I've had the first two and been around the third. Anymore a bigger question is are any of them banned where you are? If they are you can't have one anyway. :-( Have a GS and they're good dogs but much more 'stand offish' than others. They can easily become dogs that are hard to catch and unsocialized. They also have a tendency to shed. That said, I wouldn't get rid of mine - she's just not like dogs I'm more used to but would probably be dead had I not taken her (rescue). Dobes - awesome dogs. Big babies and the ones I had were highly protective of their families. Rottweillers - I know someone with them that has some really nice ones. They're too stubborn for my taste. If I had to pick one and only one it'd be a Dobe - but depends on the individual too. I've had several

Well it depends on what you would be using the dog for. German Shepherds are very intelligent and learn things easily. They are also very good with children. Dobermans are very good watch dogs. overall i think that german shepherds are nicer and better in obidience.

I have always heard that German Shepherds are great dogs. They are smart, loyal and they are beautiful. I've never seen a GS in the news for attacking their owners whereas, I have with the other two breeds.

Personally, I think you should wait on getting a second dog. Your new pup is only a baby, and needs you now - probably more than any other time.
Two dogs, especially puppies, are twice the trouble, and twice as hard to train.
Better to wait until your dog is older, and trained. At that point, he will be able to help you with the new puppy.
As far as breed goes, these are all great dog breeds, but I prefer Shepards. It's been my experience that they're easier to train than Dobies or Rotties. But, when it gets right down to it, I'd take any of them. Big dogs rock!

Well I think you made a great choice. Not because there is anything wrong with other two breeds, but because you think he is the best dog ever and that will make you and him happy. Me while liking all three breeds, would have to look at each dog before making a decision.
