I have a four month old male maltipoo. He is frisky and happy with a good appetite. He poops normally (solid, three times a day) Two days ago he had two drops of blood in runny stool. We were worried and were going to call the vet, however it was the weekend. By Monday Nick's stool was fine. It only happened once. Could he have eaten something? Is blood always a bad sign?

Have you palpated your dog's tummy to see if there's any pain? Do it VERY gently. If it was bright red blood, it could be he ate something that scraped his intestine, and it will resolve on its own. But there are other causes, some that would require a vet's diagnosis and treatment. I'm a worry wart, so I'd probably at least call my vet for counsel. Here's a site that can take you through some of the possible causes and diagnoses.

Well I would say that you do need to get him into a vet but I just got a pit puppy that is doing the same thing. We were at the vet yesterday and he is having a yellow stool with mucus and a SMALL amount of blood. He's is worms. He has hook, whip and round. My vet gave me a yellow medicine to give him as well as a pill. I am not sure if this is the same thing as your dog may have but just thought I would share my experience yesterday. If you give your vet a call there should be an emergency number you can contact them. Better safe than sorry! Good luck I hope it all works out for you and your little guy!

It sounds like she might have had a stressed digestive system or a tear in her anus. This happens sometimes when dogs get excited or try to push the feces out of the digestive tract. If the blood comes out prior to the feces it is a sign of hookworm or whipworm but from what you explained it sounds like he was just a bit stressed. You will still want to monitor her because if it becomes frequent here is a possiblity that the bacteria from the feces can get into the dogs bloodsteam and cause a serious infection.

I am assuming that he's been dewormed and has had is shots? He may have just been constipated. Keep an eye on things and if they persist or get worse have a vet check him out. If it were serious, such as a tear or an infection it wouldn't have cleared up that quickly. If it were a tear then eveytime he went it would break open and bleed.

too much blood, or frequent blood is a bad sign, but it sounds as if the poor guy had a hard bowl movement and had some tearing. just keep an eye on him and his movements and make sure he is getting plenty of water.

Take your dog to the vet as soon as possible, If you wait until it gets worse, It could be too late.
