Try craiglist. Unless you are making really good money, it will be very hard to find a "nice place" in Manhattan. Your best bet would be queens or brooklyn which are relatively cheaper.

yuu could always just buy a little tiny one with one window that lookks outt to an ally...thats really all..ny,ny is NOT cheap
