Yes. In 2004 *Government* spending on healthcare was $500 dollars less per person in Canada than the USA, and yet Canada had higher life expectancy and lower infant mortality. The industries pay higher taxes in Canada, but their savings in healthcare(since the union would demand it in the US anyways) more than make up for it. It's several hundred dollars a car cheaper in Canada.

I found it really funny to read all the American responses. 1) These same people say "America is the greatest country in the world"..then the next breath admit they couldn't handle something like Universal Health care. LOL..must be too complex for them. Large scale math, an all. 2) Guess you, and others, clearly have no idea how a Universal Health care system works. Let me explain it to you. I will go slow. Each person pays into the system. Then the system in turn pays out whenever someone needs medical care. Much the same way an insurance company works. A group of individuals pay into a pool, then the pool pays for their care when needed. If Blue Cross Blue Shield can manage this very complex and complicated process, (sarcasm) why can't the US government. 3) USA currently ranks 37th in the world as far as health care goes. 4) USA pays more per head for health care than any other country in the world. Yet still receive some of the worst health care in the world. That alone should tell you something. 5) Many, many other countries who have Universal health care, also have private insurance as options if the people wish to purchase it. 6) Canada has figured out how to make Universal health care work because they are smarter than Americans, evidently. 7) If every other developed country can provide some form of Universal health care...then why can't we? Whose system is wrong? Theirs? Or ours? 8) Lies and mis-truths are commonly spread around the USA about Universal health care. If it were as bad as some people make it out to be, don't you think they would change their system? Common sense. 9) I could care less if insurance companies go under in this country. Talk about death panels. We have been denied coverage for treatments and procedures. I have spent countless hours crying on the phone begging to have something covered. As far as I am concerned insurance companies deserve to go out of business. Donna

No. To give you a cliffnotes answer(it would take too long to give you a detailed answer), the reason why so many companies move their manufacturing plants overseas(or across the border) is a tax thing. The U.S. government taxes corporations right out of the country. Like I said, this is just a blunt simple answer. For a more detailed answer, read the Fair Tax Book.

Free health care? My God, is there really anyone left in this world who believes free health care is really free? Where do you think the money to pay for this "free" health care comes from, the tooth fairy. Free health care is paid for by the tax payers, minus, of course, a hefty cut to the Governement to pay for the army of bureaucrats to administer this so called freeby.
