As much as I deplore the attempts by the RRR Cult to DUMB-DOWN America's kids by seeking to force such unscientific TRIPE as "creationism" into our public schools, I think most Americans are capable of resisting such stupidity.
As for China -- its government is technically Communistic, but in reality, that nation is embracing capitalism at a phenomenally-accelerating rate! The remaining aspects of Communism in today's China are little more than a structure designed to keep its rulers in power. Rulers who are quite tolerant to economic changes and free enterprise, compared to all previous manifestations of Communistic regimes.

It isn't Christian fundamentalist that have caused the decline in the education system. The "educated" among us are the ones doing it. "New Math" was the first of their ideas that degraded our scholastic abilities. Then came the notions of "let's not make Johnny feel bad by giving him a poor grade!" and all that brings. And let's not forgot that teachers can not discipline students--it may hurt their self-esteem.
That's the garbage that is bringing down our society. So please stop blaming the Christians; after all, who has the best SAT's those from the public schools or those from the priviate "traditional" schools, home schooled students and those from the "religious" schools?
By the way, did you hear that NYC wants to begin paying kids for attending school!!

No. According to the Bible, China will take over anyway. I don't think that Christians at all stifle scientific investigation. I don't support communism. In theory I think it's a great idea, but it could never work.

Believing in God does not stifle science. Most of the scientists and mathematicians today are believers. It has always been that way, and will continue. You must realize that atheists make up a small percentage of the college science and math students, so don't go patting yourself on the back like you're the only one who ever heard of quantum physics.

Hmmm...Let's see...Who goes to Cuba and praises what's going on there? Jimmy Carter and Jonathon Kozol, for two. They are representatives of the extreme LEFT. Who supervised the flawed election in Venezuela & then criticized the election in the US as flawed? Well, that would be Jimmy Carter, who can only criticize his own country and overlook gross injustices elsewhere, like many of his liberal colleagues.
In this era of supposed tolerance, it is interesting to me that those who are supposedly in favor of tolerance promulgate such slander as "fundamentalists promote ignorance."
This vitriole is what is promoting ignorance, since those who spew it are unwilling to listen to the any other point of view besides their own. The best defense against communism and tyranny is not left-wing or right-wing, it is in the respectful exchange of ideas.

The stifling of science isn't predominantly done by theists but by the general public who couldn't care less about it and the politicians who do not fund it.

No, fundamentalists do not help spread Communism. No, they will not "assist" China in continuing to rise in power; they are doing that on their own.

Interesting question. Look at the Arab countries, once the home of scientific advancement and progressive thought. With Islam now in control, science and human rights are suppressed, and have led to hatred, in-fighting, and martyrdom. It's easy to extrapolate and see the same thing happening with fundie Christianity.
