NO. You must get permission. Outside of copyright infringement, there are other issues the company whose trademark you want to use may see. If you use someone's trademark or logo, people who go to your website may form a connection between your website/product and the company whose logo appears on your site. It would not be advisable yo use the logo, unless you first contact the company. If they do give you permission, I would obtain writen permission before you continue, to make sure you are as safe as can be from litigation if something happens in the future.

Sorry if I was harsh but its the smack dab truth and you could get into serious trouble.

What if you are carrying a product in your brick and mortar store, like local honey? Can you use their logo, link it to their web site and add their company and product description (later requesting permission)? I've been to several legal forums which state that this is fine to do.

No. Their legal department will get involved and it isn't likely they will approve you using their logo on your website. The main reason is they want to make sure you are not touting your product to be the same as their product. It is just a matter of legality.

some may do some may not.
just think of it like this:
you're advertising their company/product/services without even paying you. it's their earn not yours. but some want some permission first

Agreed. Much of this comes down to whether or not the logo is trademarked or registered.

Ask first. Some companies are OK with this and some companies are not.
