The Federal tax ID is the FEID: Federal Employer ID number. If you have employees, you need one of these. If you are in business by yourself alone, you can use your Social Security number.

Federal Tax ID is a corporate tax identification number issued by the IRS. Sales and Use Tax ID is a business sales and use tax number issued by each state.

They are for different purposes, and the sales tax ID comes from the state, not the feds. They are two totally different things.

Federal tax id is from IRS....sales and use tax id is from your state taxing agency for sales tax reporting.

The FEIN is your federal ID. A state can issue their own ID for sales and use tax. However, many stated just use the FEIN (with slight vatiations) as long as they have it.
