The law site below says no specific age, but on case to case basis.
12/13 is old enough to be left at home alone for short periods of time, depending on if you think the child can make good decisions or not.
In a car, same, I would think. If They can lock the doors & problem solve some, then yes... the site below can give you some guidelines on this.

thats easy NEVER to many things can happen even with the older kids I wouldn't leave my kids alone in the car ever and not in the house until they are at least 16 or 17 call me overprotective but the world today is way different then it used to be anything can happen in a split second. And leaving them in the car opens up alot of doors theres heat stroke for example. Is it worth leaving your kids in the car so you save a cpl sec in the store to loose their lives I dont think so. It is against the law to leave your children in the car in any state.

Are you trying to go to jail, never leave a child in a car for any reason, I f, an adult is in the car and you left it running while you went inside a car, fine.. or, if you had a teenager 16 years or older with driving license, it, should be okay, but, make sure they lock the doors even if they are in it for 5seconds, a lot of dangerous people out here waiting to strike when you least expected, be careful, and Please don't leave your child alone for no period of time...........

Please tell me you're joking. First of all, you never, ever leave a child in a car unattended! It doesn't matter what state you live in, kidnappers, murderers and rapists are everywhere. It can happen anytime. Another thing, I doubt very much that the state of MA can mandate what period of time is even considered acceptable. Its kind of sad, but evidently it would be better for your children if they did!

The only specific restriction we have been able to find in Massachusetts relates to Family Day Care providers. 102 CMR 8.10(5) says: "A caregiver must never leave a child unattended in a vehicle." Otherwise, Massachusetts does not have a specific law addressing unattended children in cars, but authorities still have the discretion to criminally charge caregivers under existing child endangerment laws.

you never leave a child unnatended in acar EVER i dont care if they are 10 months or ten years its not safe someone can take your child or something can happen to them. as far as the law goes i would imagine you can't leave a child in a car until they are at least 12 but personally i would never do it at all once you step through the door of being a mom you have to take on all the responsibility and sure it might seem easier to just run in and out but its not safe.

I think you should put your children up for adoption, where they can have a home with adults to take care of them.
Are you serious? Do you watch television? the news?
Are you familiar with pedophiles, kidnappers, rapists, murderers, looking for children?
NEVER, NEVER, leave children in a car alone.
If you don't have time to take the children into the store, you should go shopping when there is an ADULT to watch them.
Sweetie, you should NEVER leave children alone at home.
I hope you're not serious.
Your question must be a joke.
