Hold it upright, not flat, bite around the edges gently and flick off the sides with your fingernail. If you want to eat the coating you can work it off with your tongue while the whole thing is in your mouth.

skip the m&m's and buy chocolate chips! FYI - the hard candy shell of an m&m is actually shellac (a type of varnish) and this is not a myth, it is true because I worked at Menard's in the paint department and found it out from the company rep of a shellac/varnish company whose biggest client is m&m mars corp......so maybe peeling them isn't such a bad idea! ha ha

Why would you want to peel them? Just pop them in your mouth and enjoy.
