Hello,
I have BlueRay DVD player which is connected with Sony AV receiver and for Audio it is using my Bose lifestyle 28 system. When I play BlueRay movie the Bose shows "PCM".

Does this mean that the audio is degraded ?

It is not degraded, but most likely it is two channel only (stereo).
For 5.1 audio it should show be either DTS or DD (Dolby Digital). Put the receiver in "Auto" mode and make sure your DVD player is set to output multi-channel audio. (Of course connect the player to the receiver with a digital audio cable as well)

No - PCM is a good quality uncompressed sound - like CD.
