Well, my school just started a students' newspaper, and its first issue came out just before the previous academic year closed... Now we need ideas for this year!!!!!!!!!!

The paper is to be fully written, edited and published by the students themselves (teachers help, of course.) All the articles are written by students.

Does anyone have ANY ideas???? It can be on the format, or motto, or articles, or ANYTHING!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

Once again, let me repeat-- ANY GOOD IDEA IS WELCOME! Please, HELP ME OUT!!!!!

Thanx,
Girish

We'd like to report stuff about goings-on both inside the school and also the local areas, too!

Thanx again,
Great answers all!
Keep replying!

You can look for ideas from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association or the National Scholastic Press Association. Both give awards every year to the best student newspaper in different categories.

Girish --

How about a Culture Section? This could include reviews on movies, new music, cultural restaurants, or just some research into any culture.

Sports Section is always great too. Getting action pictures in there is always a bonus.

How about having someone go to school meetings -- PTA or the like -- and report what is going on there. Many decisions about the school are made at those meetings, and I think students should know what is going on behind closed doors.

Hope you can add these ideas to your list. Good luck with the paper!

You should always have a section called "Feature Teacher". It is where you pick one teacher from your school per issue and give information about them.

Another section can be called "Movie Blues". If any of the students in your newspaper group went to see a movie that just came out, they can tell a little about it, whether it was a hit, or it bombed.

If any students won awards recently, you could interview the student and tell about the award.

At the end of the year, you could do a section called "Good Riddance". If any teachers are quitting or retiring, you could say how long they worked their, what they taught, etc; and you wish them good luck.

i hope this helped..these were just some things that my school does.

Great
do a feature on one of the best teachers.
Is there a hall of fame in your school on former athletes or academics. Reach out to a former graduate and do a profile.
do a column on the do and don't of your school.
No smoking policy, dress code. Some general interest items
Do a column on green environment. They love that stuff.
Do a column on what presidential candidate has the best views on education in this country.
You can do something on sports at the school.
Reach out to some local community groups, the pizza shop, donut shop, clothing shop. Give them free ads in exchange for a buy one get one free coupon.
How is this for edition number one

Why not research school in other countries...compare differences and similarities...maybe start a group in your school that befriends a school in another country and become penpals then report on it...could be an ongoing story as well as a good way for your students to learn about other countries and cultures.

You need a reporter for school sports, a researcher/reporter for lunch menus and holidays/special events, A science and math reporter, a history reporter, and you should produce a podcast as another version of the news to compliment the printed one.
