I have a car with a personal reg on it. I want to sell the number and get the original one back on it. Will I have to pay the registration fee of 80pounds + vat twice to take off and replace? Do I still own the old one? The DVLA website isn't very helpful
Thanks

Only if you can locate the owner of the vehicle with your old reg number on it AND they are willing to do the swap. You no longer own the old reg number.

To swap reg numbers, you must be the registered keeper of both vehicles. Through some quick sleight of hand, both vehicles are transferred to one of the vehicle owners or a third party, the numbers swapped, and then the registered keepers are switched back to the original owners.

At least that was the procedure the last time I swapped a reg number, back in 1994.
