Most of the people who answered this are very against mormons. I don't like this nickname. Our church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints,or as we like to be called, LDS. I really would suggest going to the site listed below for info. It's put out by the church, so you know you are getting the info from the source.

As far as not believing in the divinity of Christ, that's wrong!!! Christ is the corner stone of our religion. He is our savior. It is only through Him that we can gain salvation and be saved.

We don't believe space men came down to give the scriptures to Joseph Smith!! We believe an angle came- his name was Moroni. I don't understand why people have such a hard time with this concept. In the bible, angles are seen all the time!

We aren't a cult. We are a true religion, just as other sects of Christianity are religions. We don't brain wash you, or take away your freedom to choose how to live your life. Yes, our standards are high, but that is to help us be better people, not take away our choices.

I really would talk to your boyfriend. He can explain things better then most people on here. Most are coming a place of either not wanting to understand us, or just going by what they have heard others say. Some have either left the church, or been excommunicated for some reason. Do you think these people will tell you the truth? I doubt it!!! All they want to show that we are evil, or not christian, or a cult, or some other ludicrous statement.

I would try to talk to your boyfriend about it (BTW - Mormons are allowed to have relationships with non-members, so whoever said that your boyfriend wasn't a "real Mormon" doesn't know what they are talking about), but "Mormon" is a nickname given to a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There is a great deal of hate and animosity towards LDS (Mormons) on this site, but the best way to find out about LDS is to go straight to the source. A lot of the website you see posted on here (exmormon, carm, etc) contain a great deal of misleading or distorted information.

The LDS faith is centered around Jesus Christ as the Savior and the Son of God. This primary belief is what makes the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints a Christian denomination. LDS believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that both the Bible and the Book of Mormon are God's word.

Some unique things about the LDS faith are the Word of Wisdom, which is sort of a guideline for healthy living. You will find very few LDS people who drink alchohol, smoke, and things like that. Family is also EXTREMELY important to those who are LDS. Most active LDS have a Family Home Evening once a week and attend all Church meetings and activities together. We also believe that familes can be sealed for Eternity.

These are just a few. I could mention more, but I would have to write a book. Try www.lds.org and www.mormon.org for some of our basic beliefs.

http://www.jefflindsay.com/LDSFAQ/ is a great site for FAQ's, too

Most importantly, I would try talking to your boyfriend about it. I'm sure he'd be willing to answer any questions you have :)

It's a cult that believes that a man in a space suit appeared in New York in the 1800's and brought with him a new Testament of the Bible that mandated special underwear and door-to-door evangelism. The cult mandates that all of the adherents turn over 10% of everything they earn to the Church. The Mormon Church is, therefore, very wealthy.

A couple of Mormons came to our door telling us that Jesus is coming again, as if I haven't heard that one already.

At first I thought they were from the Geek Squad come to tie in our new computer on the wireless network, but when they started talking about Jesus I told them they got the wrong house.

If you married him outside of the Temple you would have him for this life only. If you were to marry him in the Temple you would have to join the Church, live the gospel fully and get a Temple recommend. Then you would be married eternally and be with your family eternally. That's why good members don't marry outside of the church, they would lose all that.

Your boyfriend is not a real Mormon, or he would not be dating a non-Mormon girly.

Mormons believe Jesus came to the US at some point. If you think about it, this is really no more ludicrous than believing in "Him" in the first place!

The following web site was designed to help people answer this question. I recommend starting with some of the videos if your internet connection can handle them.

They say that they are Christian, but they deny the Deity of Christ... along with a few other things that most Christians believe. They justify it by saying the LDS is the only true way. The link in the source will be helpful to you. It may be a little biased, but you'll see the difference.

1) go to www.google.com
2) type "Mormon" in the search bar
3) pick a website, usually wikipedia will have a nice answer.

Seriously - Am I the only one that knows these things?

They base their religion on the Book of Mormon which can easily be proven to be fiction.
