pain depends on where you get them. the more sensitive you are the more they hurt in that spot. I have one on the back of my shoulder, it barely hurt. I have one on my lower abdomen it hurt a lot more. It depends on the area and how dark it is

I have lots of tattoos and I will be getting more, I love them some may say it is an addiction but either way, I am happy w/ my tats as for the pain I don't think they hurt at all but people feel pain differently, and of course they are permanent so don't get something that you will hate in a year or two. And if you do get one make sure you take good care of it so it does not get infected. Oh and they work by using a needle to get the ink under the skin, it is a small needle and it really doesn't hurt.

Electric tattoo machine moves a solid needle up and down to puncture the skin that deposits a drop of ink into the skin with each puncture. It goes into the dermis so the ink witll stay in place forever. It may fade and disperse through time.

As for pain, each person is different. However, some people compair it to a sunburn or razor burn. While it's happening, it may sting, but your autonomic system kicks in and it becomes somewhat desensitized. Note: if the pain was really bad, not very many people would have them.

The second person who posted is wrong, they arent painful and ugly for a few weeks. Not if you go to a good artist. Mine stung for the first couple days, and then as it heals it flakes a little like a sunburn but it never looks ugly, just keep it hydrated with lubriderm lotion!

Anyway... to answer your question, they inject ink from a gun that has a bunch of tiny needles in it, and yes it does hurt some. But that all depends on your pain tolerance.

You should visit a tattoo parlor and have the artist show you the equipment. Tattoo can be painful, especially where you want your artwork and how much detail there is.
"coloring" is the painful part.
It takes up to 10days for tattoos to heal with proper nurturing. Some tattoos may need "touch ups" and make sure you ask if they provide that service free of charge.

I have four tattoos; inked recently...they are addicting.

Good Luck!

Everyone has explained how it works... but as far as pain goes... it all depends on your tolerance. I haven't figured out if I like pain or I can just tolerate it. I have 2 and the one on my lower back that everyone said was going to hurt... it didn't bother me, I think I giggled through most of it because it tickled. They usually say it all depends on the part of the body that you choose to get it at. The thinner the skin is then the more pain you will experience.

u generally have to go into a tattoo shop. talk to an artist about what you are interested in getting. then (in the United States) if you are 18 or older you can get one done on urself. of course there is pain. some people describe it as a numbing sensation. everyone has a different tolerance for pain...

A series of needles bundled together are dipped in ink, and pushed about 1/16 of an inch under your skin, planting the ink into a permanent layer of skin.

Obviously there is pain. It's needles going in and out of your skin at high speed. But have you ever heard of someone dying from it?

They hurt, but not too bad. They are addictive, though, everyone I know says that! Once you get past the fear of getting one, and you like that one, then you just keep going back. It is a needle that goes into your skin over and over again. If you don't like needles, maybe getting a tattoo isn't the greatest idea.
PS. they are permanent and the surgery to remove them is expensive and really ugly and just as painful as the tattoo itself, if not more.
