I wouldn't.
No dog is 100% hypoallergenic. You can also develop allergies. Personally the shots and medicines are not worth it if you can avoid the situation all together.
Taking a kid to emergency at 3am because they can't breathe is scary. Having someone give up an older dog because they can't take it anymore is heartbreaking.

Poodles tend to be the most recommended dog for asthmatics, but it really depends on the person. If a Pom had such a negative affect on you, it may be more than just your asthma. Your best bet is to find a good breeder of the type of dog that interests you, and ask to spend some time with their animals to see if it does affect you. My daughter is asthmatic, and the dogs do not bother her at all, the cats do....but it is because she has a mild allergy to cats.
FYI, Poodle mixes do NOT all take the traits of the poodle, and some shed profusely and have coats nothing like a poodle. I wish folks would stop spreading that misinformation.

I think you should investigate the shorthaired, smaller breeds. You will need one that you'll be able to bathe frequently to remove dander or at least be able to wipe down with the allergy-relief cloths. Before making a commitment to an animal,I suggest you find a neighbor or friend that has a dog of the breed you interested in and borrow the dog for the weekend.Let it sleep with you,lay on the furniture, lick you, etc. Just like your own dog will do,and see if you have problems. If you don't,try it again in another 2 weeks,if no problems then,go for it. But don't get a dog without doing these steps first. Otherwise it'll be another dog being euthanized at the pound.

I just bought a Havanese (they are from the bichon frise family). They do not shed and have hair like humans. So far I am good with her but I am also on allergy medication. I did A LOT of research and my suggestion to you is to find breeders, spend time with the pups and see how you react. I looked into poodles b/c they were supposed to be good for allergies and I had a constant cough and was itchy. Everybody reacts differently, a dog that does not bother one person, may bother another. The best bet is to spend time with the dog once you have narrowed it down. Good Luck!

Well, I am too, but it used to be cats that bothered me. How we figured out if I would be okay around them, we went to an adoption place, and I played around with them, and found out I was okay. Why don't you try that?? Might work!!!!
GOOD LUCK!!! HOPE YOU CAN GET A DOG!!!!

poodles and labradoodles could be a good option for you cause they dont have fur, their coat is actually more like wool.
also remember that there are a number of things that can trigger asthma not just the type of fur an animal has, saliva can cause it too, there may not be any breed that is suitable for you specifically

Try a poodle or a poodle mix. Smart and do not shed or shed much like a lot of others.
