even when its ideas you dont agree with or find offensive or absurd or silly or rude. free speech is always controversial. i value the internet because its the last bastion of free speech. everything else in the media has been filtered and watered-down.

There is no freedom of speech if unpopular speech is not protected. Popular speech needs no protection.

I am for freedom.

Freedom is not absolute. Freedom is not the the same thing as no restrictions. It is not our right to violate the rights of others by practicing our version of freedom. There are community standards that must be honored and respected, and those standards ensure that we don't trample on the rights of others.

If we all had a built in moral compass to prevent us from trespassing on other's rights, community standards wouldn't be necessary, but that is not the case. We cannot cry fire in a crowded theater to practice our right to free speech. We cannot say anything, anywhere, any time. It doesn't work like that. We live in society. There are amazing examples of people who had very unpopular ideas, but they were/are able to express themselves with amazing diplomacy and passion.

As long as we can express our mind in a constructive rather than a destructive way, there should be no problems for anyone, regardless of how others like or don't like our ideas.

Do you mean in a PC manner, or really. Few people truly support freedom of speech.

Only if you agree with my views.

Kidding. I agree with free speech, as long as it's only speech. When you try to apply actions to your views and people don't agree or it is going to hurt somebody, then you will have problems.

While I value free speech highly, there are appropriate limits. For example, committing any kind of fraud should be illegal.
