I'm having trouble getting an appointment to MOT my car at a time when I'm not at work and before it expires on the 28th. I'm sure I've heard you are allowed to drive a car with an expired MOT if you'rem going to get one. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

Sorry, I mean to say drive it to a MOT centre. Not drive it anywhere!

You may drive it to the testing centre for a pre-booked test. You should have proof of the test booking and you must take the most direct normally traveled route to the testing centre and proceed directly to the testing centre without delay or detour.

Do bear in mind that this does NOT allow you to operate an unsafe vehicle on the public roads! If you should be stopped and your vehicle is not in roadworthy condition you can still be cited for operating an un-roadworth vehicle on public roads.

Contrary to what another respondent stated, if you fail the test, you may NOT drive the vehicle from the testing centre. You'll either need to arrange for repairs to be completed at that testing centre or arrange to have it towed to the place of repair.

Yes providing that you have Pre-booked it and that you have given the MOT centre the registration number you are then entitled to the journey to and from the MOT test that said it is providing you have current insurance and a licence to drive. This journey is only dispensation for driving on the road without a current road fund licence (TAX) nothing else

Yes you can. You MUST have a booked appointment, ideally with a written confirmation, and of course must be insured. You can only drive it on a direct route to the MOT, leave the shopping till its passed.

you can only drive your car to a mot station if you have an appointment there, you cannot drive to a drive up and wait garage, if you were to get a pull from the police, they will phone the mot station to check your not telling porkies.

As long as it is booked in to be MOT'd - you'll be OK - If not a fully booked appointment - then you could be stopped and given a ticket for driving without MOT.

You can drive to a PRE-AGREED appointment at the closest test centre if you take the most direct route.
