I heard a rumor that the president is banning U.S citizens from leaving America and that we have only a limited time to get our permits. Is this true?

Not yet, but with some ways he's warped the constitution, I can't categorically say it couldn't happen.

Don't know what kind of permit you are talking about nor have I heard of any ban on leaving the country.
Perhaps you are referring to the fact that visas will be required in the near future (I think it's September) for all travel outside the US including Canada and Mexico where they were not required previously. As for getting a visa, there is currently a backlog of applicatons and it is taking months instead of weeks to have one issued. This can make many travel plans sketchy if people do not get their visas in time for their travel date.

Dude are you for real? lol We are a free country, he can't ban you from leaving, unless you are a criminal on the run. Pay attention to what the actual story is. I believe that you are referring to how our Government screwed up, in it's putting into effect the new law that requires all Americans and of course foreigners to use a passport to travel back and forth between our country and Canada, as well as Mexico. Before the new law which is aimed at keeping out terrorist wackos with fake licenses, .Americans and Canadians who traveled back and forth over the boarder separating our countries only needed to show their drivers licenses to gain entry.
The problem that arose was that our Government immigration department in that it is understaffed, could not handled the sudden increase in demand for passport application requests. In fact it is said to have escalated something like 400% from what it normally was.

This sucked, for people who had gotten off from work, for their vacation and had been promised their passports to be ready in let's say 8 weeks, then suddenly the are told it will be 4 or 5 months before they get it..

So it isn't that you can't leave, it's just that if you happen to be going to a place like Canada, which prior to this week we didn't require an American who was coming back and re-entering the States to have an American passport as opposed to just an ID, to get back in. Therefore, if you didn't have one, you would be screwed trying to come back in America.

It was on the news, that due to our Dept of Homeland Security's foul up, with it's under estimating what the correct demand for passports was going to be, that they have rolled back this new requirement temporarily for Americans who are coming back from Canada, however, we are still enforcing the other 1/2 of the new law which requires Canadians to have a passport in order to gain entrance into our Country.

You are welcome to leave any time you like. My personal opinion is that The United States of America is the best country in the world and there is no place I'd rather be. If you have found someplace you would rather be, knock yourself out.

What the hell are you talking about. Banning people from leaving the US. Just think about how that sounds. Last I heard you still lived in a democracy.

Someone is playing with your head, there is no such rule!

You can leave the US any time you want, it's people coming in that they may stop for good reasons.

If you think that such a stupid story could possibly be true, then there is no country on the planet what would allow you in.
