I don't know if I would consider it barbaric. the book religions demand only one God and only one truth. Even the bible with many thousand different Christian churches and different doctrines claims there is only one truth and one church Ephesians 4:4, 5, 6. Not to mention many other passages including the ones giving condemnation to any who add to or take away from the doctrine in the bible, which would exclude all the modern churches and Christians.

I don't have any problem with people believing their way is the only true way, I just get irritated when they try to convert me, but I am trying my Best to be more patient with these people because as a former Christian minister who was very involved in soul winning, I do understand their motive and their reason.

If a person is a member of a certain faith that claims only one truth, but says differently, then that person is not true to their faith. Tolerance must start somewhere so it must begin with me, is what I keep telling myself. I have a long way to go before I am truly living this wholly.

To some extent maybe, but you have to accept (however civilised you are) that if you believe that there is one God, and only one God, who is perfect, then you more or less have to believe that polytheistic beliefs are false (the alternative is constructing a rather complicated system in which both are expressions of the same truth - and these are hard to maintain).

Similarly, if can't very well believe that Christ died on the cross for the sins of all humanity and claim that Judaism is equally right about who Jesus was.

And if you're an atheist, you can't very well say that theism is equally true.

I agree that simple dualistic thinking is often unsophisticated, and that a subtler, more graded approach is often preferable, but don't forget that some beliefs really are mutually contradictory.

My suspicion, for what it's worth, is that religion in general is something primitive that could do with being shed.

Finally, I would add that I'm somewhat uncertain about your use of the word evolution here. If you're referring to biological evolution, then bear in mind that this has nothing to do with progressing beyond animalistic thinking.

It is not animalistic. Turn it around. God is the head honcho. It is what He thinks that is important. He has all the power. As such, He has an approved way He wants to be worshiped. He set it down in the Bible. If we follow it closely, it is true. If we change it and worship the way we like. it is false.

Evolution's appeal for men is modern man is supposed to be the highest form. Creation's account and present day reality shows we started out perfect and it has been down hill ever since.

If one were to determine, as a human, that something was ultimately True versus False, surely that would be a concept of the mind and therefore not within the boundaries of relgion.

John 8:32 And ye shall comprehend the actuality, and the actuality shall make you loose. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, i'm the way, the actuality, and the life: no guy cometh unto the father, yet via me. Acts 4:12 neither is there salvation in the different: for there is none different call under heaven given between adult men, wherein we could be stored.

So is evolution in the 'true' crowd,or the 'false' one?
Don't hold your breath waiting for evolution to make you better. We have 'devovled', and are no different than what we were in the beginning. We have only gotten worse.
From Amoebas to frogs to monkeys to people?
Think about it.
You need to 'evolve' your thought patterns beyond what you have been brainwashed, um...I mean...taught to believe.
"Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools"
Romans 1:22
I used to thin like many here, and was part of the 'monkey madness' crowd, but have improved my thought patterns from THE force - God himself.
The Force is strong with this one.

All religions are by definition artificial and fake. They are all creations of man. The only reality is the reality of a universe sans deities. People need to learn to deal.
